Movies with this ocean-themed premise—where humans find themselves in habitats inhabited by dangerous animals—make for a thrilling experience while also serving as a reminder that every living creature has its own space. This new release will change the way we think. That’s why Whalefall is here—where the depths of the ocean become both a unique adventure and a survival experience where every second counts to make it out alive. It’s something totally different, with that special touch that will ultimately make us reflect.

The story introduces us to a young man who dives into the ocean to recover his father’s remains—a rather risky mission that ends with him trapped inside a whale, fighting for his life, where oxygen is running low and there’s no food. This leads us to wonder: Will he make it out? Will anyone help him? This premise makes the film increasingly gripping as it unfolds, since being trapped in that place creates a sense of anxiety and fear—yet it’s also quite compelling, as viewers are eager to see how it all plays out.

The good thing is that the film has a lot to tell and show; beyond the struggle to escape alive, we find a family story, as it also explores the father-son relationship—where every memory from the past, every lesson, and the words that were never spoken make it all the more moving. That’s why every character in the film has something special that sets them apart, helping the story move forward and reach its conclusion. However, there are moments where certain elements fall short—predictable moments—and those small details can change everything.

This is a film that explores many themes, such as grief, forgiveness, guilt, and the need to heal the wounds of the past, as well as the horror that comes simply from being trapped inside a whale. Ultimately, it’s an intense, harrowing, and quite original experience, as it combines survival, horror, and drama. While perhaps not everything works perfectly, it has enough personality to leave a lasting impression—because sometimes the most terrifying monster isn’t in the depths of the ocean, but in all those memories we’ve been trying to escape for far too long.
