I used to spend a lot of time hanging out at the bars, pubs, bistros, night clubs, doing the dirty things. Although I don't really take hard drugs, the kind of heavily drinking and smoking lifestyle has taken a toll on my body.
Back then, I don't really like drinking. I did it because I want a getaway. I want a way out. I want to feel detached from reality under the heavy influence of hard liquor. When I drink more than my buddies, I will feel superior to them. I will think I looked cool with cigarettes in one hand and a glass of whisky on the other hand.
As I grew older, I figured there's very little I can control about my health. I learned to put what NOT into my mouth. 9 out of 10 urban illnesses are related to food intake. I used to have a reporting superior which I categorized him as an asshole, as he always takes advantage of me, ordered me to drive him for drinking sessions, ordered me to pay, ordered me to send him home, and he called that "business". He once said, he's healthy because he took liver tonic pills to curb the heavy alcohol intake. I didn't say it, but I'd argue why drink alcohol in the first place?
Nowadays, I know how to say no. I'd enjoy drinking a few here and there. I don't feel fun if I start to feel like losing control. Fortunately the new boss didn't ask me to pay, and he took a cab home. The new boss said, you don't need to drink like no tomorrow, because tomorrow you'll still need to clock in 8:30am sharp π€£ This is the corporate ladder.
