The part came today as I write. I ordered a passenger side door handle for a 93 Honda Accord Ex 2 door from Amazon. The part only cost me $12.11 plus tax and I ordered two other items that I needed anyway so I could get the free shipping.
Well, I wanted to see if I could actually replace this door handle on my own, as I do want to save money this time. You see back in July 14, 2016 my driver side door handle broke. I had to fix it as I didn't want to roll down the window to open the door using the external door handle from inside the car.
Well, back then I didn't know how to even fix such a thing. I was just hoping that they had the part. Well, even in the shop I was at the computer of the head mechanic place and he was trying to find that part.
I almost had to get one with a different color, but the guy found another supplier. Thing was that the shop charged me $53.54 for that part. That is more than 400% more than what I got that same part from Amazon.
Well, if any of these door handles break on a future date, forget the mechanic shop, I'm either going to buy that part from Amazon or Ebay. Later on I even found that same part for $9.99 with free shipping on Ebay. Well, maybe I'll use Ebay next time. Well, I'll try both and see which way to go.
So, I went to my car with my new part and a Phillips screwdriver and a long nose curved pliers. By the way I bought that long nose curved pliers at the farmers market for only a dollar. I'm glad I had that weird looking pliers. They cost more than a dollar on Amazon, that is for sure.
So, I unscrewed the door handle and I find the hard wire thing that is connected to the broken door handle. So I took that long nose curved pliers and held that hard wire thing in place as I didn't want it to fall into the inner door area.
So, I disconnected that hard wire thing from the broken door handle and kept hold on that wire. Then I attached the wire thing to the new door handle and locking it in place with the little plastic holder.
I just had to get that plastic holder in position to hold the wire thing in place, once that happened then I just reattached the new door handle with the screws.
I double and triple checked it and it works! Yay, I just saved my self a hunk of money.
You see the shop charged me $53.54 for the part and they charged me $45 for the labor. Their rate is $90 an hour so they spent a half an hour on this work for a total of $105.22, this included a shipping fee for the part at $6.68.
Well, I am glad I bought the part myself and put it in myself and I saved a hunk of money. Praise the Lord!
