During my last holiday in April this year, I decided to visit my elder brother in Rivers State. I was happy about the trip because I had already been looking forward to seeing him, spending some time with him and also enjoying my holiday a little bit before going back to school.
On the day I was supposed to travel I woke up early and started preparing my things, I packed my clothes, charger, phone, some food and other things I would need for the journey, I checked my bag several times because I don't want to forget anything, After everything was ready I said goodbye to the people at home and started my journey.
At first. everything was going fine, I got to the park entered the vehicle and found a place to sit and I was just looking outside through the window and listening to music and thinking about how I was going to enjoy myself when I finally got to Rivers State.
The journey was going smoothly until I got to an area where I became confused about the direction and I was not very familiar with the place and the information I had about where I was going was not really clear to me at that point and I checked my phone and tried calling my brother but the network was somehow disturbing me and that was when I started getting worried because I looked around and everywhere and the place was so strange to me.
I didn't know whether I was still going in the right direction or whether I had already passed the place I was supposed to turn, At that moment I started thinking something like I hope I don't really get lost here, I decided not to just sit down and continue guessing so I asked someone nearby for directions, The person tried explaining the road to me but the explanation was confusing at first, He mentioned some places I didn't even know.
I thanked him and continued moving but after walking for some time, I still wasn't completely sure if I was going the right way.
I tried calling my brother again, and this time the call finally connected. I explained where I was and told him that I was confused about the direction. He asked me to stay where I was and he explained the route to me properly, After speaking with him I felt a little bit relieved.
I continued the journey checking the places around me and comparing them with what my brother had described, At some point I even asked another person just to make sure I was not making another mistake, And Eventually I started recognizing some of the places my brother had mentioned, That was when I knew I was getting close.
When I finally arrived I was so relieved, The first thing I did was call my brother and let him know that I had arrived safely, Seeing him after the whole journey made me forget about the stress I had gone through, Now Looking back the journey was actually an experience for me, At first I was excited about travelling to Rivers State, but when I got confused along the way and the excitement quickly changed to worry.
I realized that travelling to a place you are not familiar with can be stressful, especially when you don't know the roads very well, the funny part is that after I finally got to my brother's place I started laughing about the whole thing, I was thinking about how worried I was earlier and how I kept checking my phone and asking people for directions.
The most important thing for me was that I eventually got there safely, that trip during my April holiday gave me another small life experience, It taught me that when you are travelling to somewhere you don't know very well, you should make sure you have the correct address, keep your phone charged, have enough transport money and don't be afraid to ask people for directions.
It was stressful at some point but it was still a memorable journey, and visiting my elder brother in Rivers State made the whole experience worth it.
