Today I plan to spend a few hours sculpting my map. I have some new high quality materials that I added over the past few days, but I still have a lot of work to bring my town to life. I am building this virtual world for building cinematic sequences for short films I am working on, and also to improve my skills building in 3D. Over the years I have wanted to do this, but about 2 weeks ago something clicked in my brain and I started putting pieces together, past ideas, current ideas, future ideas.
This part really can't be rushed. You can't whip together a whole city in a few minutes, and it is tedious work at times. I will work on one area, then move to another. I am using my own city as a guideline, but this is not my city. This is the world in which my stories can take place, and there is so much room here that I can build anything I want within this map. Yesterday I found a whole collection of free use items scanned from the Smithsonian, so I build a large museum and plan to (attempt) to import some of these objects. The first two failed, when you download a 3D object it comes like lego pieces with little or no instructions. Last week I 'put together' the Materials from textures I downloaded, and this week I am going to try to 'put together' some artifacts.
I am using this ramp tool to create smooth rising terrain. If I build up a general area then I can smooth it out and give it a more natural look. I also don't want to create too much land until I know where I am going to put the roads. After I finish landscaping I want to build some AI characters but I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself. I started follwing one tutorial and I almost broke my entire world blueprint. So I will construct the AI characters in a separate level and stack it later.
A friend shared this Stele today so I thought, a nice simple texture map, perfect. Let's see!
I call this next piece of art, taking a break. Or "The Bench".
