There were two couples who lived next door to each other : a happy couple and a fighting couple. The couples were friendly with each other. They were about the same age and both couples had recently gotten married. They would spend evenings together, enjoying supper and many hours laughing and talking.
One day, the fighting couples noticed that their friends always seemed to be in good moods. They never heard yelling or slamming of doors coming from their house. At times, the fighting couples would get very embarrassed as they would often fight and scream at each other. They were sure their friends next door could hear them.
The fighting couple discussed this and decided to hide in their friend's garden one night so they could listen to their conversations the happiest couple had with each other.
The fighting couple came away with smiles on their faces. They were amazed by what they had heard that night. Their happy friends never fought because they always compromised. They didn't seem to need to be right, but were willing to admit when they had done something wrong. The fighting couple had definitely learn something new!
The following night the happy couple went over to see the fighting couple. The fighting couple admitted that they had eavesdropped the previous night. They told their friends why they had done this. They all laughed about the whole experience.
Then their happy friends explained to them why they choose to compromise instead of always trying to be right. They said their parents had sat them down before they got married. Their parents had explained to them that when two people from different house get married, there were bound to be differences in opinion and both would need to be right. They shared that couples need to care for their partners and compromise on the trivial things in life.
The fighting couple had learnt a valuable lesson. They tried very hard to stop fighting as, to listen to each other and to compromise whenever possible.
