Hello everybody! It's February and we are celebrating the carnival, this week was quite busy in my daughter's school and it was so very exciting for her.
It all started on Monday, with the election of the queen, she wanted to wear her white dress and I made the band with her name. They were all winners of course. And it was a beautiful morning filled with games and music.
¡Hola a todos! Es febrero y estamos celebrando el carnaval, ésta semana fue bastante ocupada en la escuela de mi hija y fue muy emocionante para ella. Todo comenzó el día lunes, con la elección de la reina, ella quería usar su vestido blanco y yo le hice una banda con su nombre. Todas fueron ganadoras, desde luego. Y fue una hermosa mañana llena de juegos y música.
On Tuesday they had a pool party. In my country carnival is celebrated with water balloons, garden hoses, and kiddie pools. So they had truly a blast enjoying the morning and having breakfast out in the garden, she got home super tired, so much that she even took a nap which is something she rarely does lately.
El martes tuvieron una piscinada. En mi país el carnaval se celebra con globos de agua, mangueras, y piscinas de niños. Así que ellos realmente disfrutaron la mañana y tuvieron un desayuno en el jardín, ella llego a casa super cansada, tanto que incluso tomo una siesta lo cual es algo que últimamente no suele hacer.
Wednesday was the costume contest, I was on a budget so I came up with the idea of putting together her favorite black dress and her boots and dressing her up as Wednesday Adams. She was stoked, and got so many compliments. It was adorable to see all the children dressed up as so many different characters.
El miércoles fue el concurso de disfraces, yo estaba algo corta de presupuesto así que se me ocurrió colocarle su vestido negro preferido con sus botas y vestirla como Merlina Addams. Ella estaba muy contenta, y le halagaron un montón. Fue muy adorable ver todos los niños vestidos de diferentes personales.
The party was programmed to be on Thursday, and it turns out it was also the birthday of one of her classmates, so it was a double party. She even picked the present for her friend and was very excited to give it to her. The pastries were amazing, and they got to dance and play together.
La fiesta estaba programada para el día jueves, y resulta que ese día también era el cumpleaños de una de sus compañeras de clase, por lo que fue una fiesta doble. Ella incluso escogió el regalo para su amiga y estaba muy entusiasmada de dárselo. Los dulces estaban deliciosos, y tuvieron un lindo día bailando y jugando juntos.
Then on Friday was the main event, the carnival parade. We joined a bunch of other schools in a huge parade with different themes. Our school's theme was "Calypso" and they were meant to be dresses with traditional attire, or a more fantasy take on it as it was the case of my girl. There were many "madamas", "negritas" and ml"medio pintos" around which is part of the traditional celebration in our country.
Por último el viernes fue el evento principal, el desfile de carnaval. Nos unimos a una gran cantidad de escuelas en un gran desfile com distintas temáticas. El tema de nuestra escuela era "Calipso" y debían ir vestidos los niños con traje tradicional, o una versión más fantasía como fue el caso de mi hija. Habían muchos trajes de "madamas", "negritas" y "medio pintos" lo cual es parte de la celebración tradicional en mi país.
I was surprised she did the whole walk and didn't ask me to take her in my arms. She was super happy blowing her whistle, we got sprayed with foam and danced to the drums. Then there was the main event with different people dressed in different costumes, music, and games. She didn't really want to go home, since she was having so much fun with her friends and it took some negotiating to make her change her mind to be honest.
Me sorprendió que ella hiciera toda la caminata y no me pidiera que la llevara en brazos. Estaba muy contenta soñando au silbato, nos mojaron de espuma y bailamos al ritmo de los tambores. Luego llegamos al evento principal con diferentes personas vestidas de varios personajes, música y juegos. Mi hija no quería volver a casa así que tuve que negociar con ella sinceramente.
I am so happy she got to experience such a wonderful week, seeing her smile and have so much fun was the best gift of them all.
