Hello, dear motherhood@motherhood community, I hope you’re all doing great. I’m stopping by today to share with you the mix of emotions I’ve been feeling over the past day or so as a new chapter begins my daughter Gaby started her first year of high school.

I can tell you that my fears and nerves were through the roof. To make matters worse, when we enrolled her, due to school zoning, Gaby was assigned to one section, while almost all of her friends from elementary school ended up in the other section. So you can imagine how upset she was when she found out.

I know and understand that in life, you have to prepare for changes and learn to adapt. If it had been at another time, I would have left her in her assigned class. But Gaby is only 11 years old, compared to her other classmates who are already 12 and 13. On top of that, she’s going through too many transitions at once the typical changes that come with growing up, the transition from elementary to middle school, and, to make matters worse, losing her safe environment. I felt it was too much for her. When I saw that there was a real possibility of making the change happen they ended up moving three other children along with her I didn’t hesitate to act. I wasn’t doing anything wrong; I was just thinking about my daughter’s emotional well-being.

That’s why, as a mother, you find strength where there isn’t any, and I couldn’t rest easyI spoke with the assistant principal, the coordinators, and even the principal.
I wrote a letter explaining in detail why it was important for her to be with her support group. They brought the case up at a meeting, and thank God, they approved the change.

And honestly, friends, what a huge relief we felt. We spent the weekend rushing around to get the last-minute shopping done, and finally, yesterday, this new phase full of challenges and changes began. Gaby was nervous about her new responsibilities, especially since she’s now taking seven classes and we’re dealing with a schedule that isn’t fixed some days she starts at 7:00 a.m., other days at 8:20 a.m., sometimes she finishes at 11:20 a.m., and other times at 12:40 p.m. It’s a completely new routine, but she’s incredibly optimistic that she’ll be able to handle it all.

And since I still have some flexibility at work, I was able to be there for her as she started her day and support her. I wanted to spoil her right from the start, so I made her favorite breakfast, packed her a lunchbox with delicious snacks, and left her a little surprise note. When she came back, she told me she loved the gesture, and that warmed my heart. Here I am, doing my best to support her and learning as I go, because we know full well that perfect moms don’t exist but determined, resilient moms certainly do.

I hope all the parents in our community are having a wonderful time back-to-school season with their beautiful children. Thank you for reading. Sending you a big hug, warm regards, and blessings.
