I can imagine someone thinking why I would want to talk on such an article topic and many years of Hive existence. Someone may feel if I and trying to discuss Hive 101 here. Myles Munroe once said, ‘until the purpose of a thing is known, abuse is inevitable’. Have we abused, misused or underused Hive? Does it meet up it daily creation purpose as an ecosystem?.
So I quickly as this question again, what is Hive? A blockchain ecosystem that rewards users, a social media platform that rewards users with tokens, a passive income platform, a place to grow stakes and gain more platform dominance. We can go on and on; a place where developers keep throwing in projects to garner attention, a gen Z decentralized platform, a place we keep throwing in that post and caring less of whether someone is actually reading them or not. Talking about throwing in that post, it is not a bad idea anyway but I feel that what I will be discussing in the later part of this article will help bring more article attention.
Have you for once seen Hive as just ‘a social media platform?’ or is there a need to?. Tokens aside, governance aside and the rest to that dev things, there is a need to understand the value of social media. Where am I driving here in this article? I have had two of such experiences and well, the second one did finally draw my attention. Someone once sent me a message on Hive and well, I saw the transacted message late and was also surprised because it is a rare thing.
Of course we know how that can be done or do we?. Maybe I should take this opportunity to delve a little deeper. Every transaction on Hive is a message yet it is something that is mostly overlooked. Sending Hive, HBD and LEO (the most I know comes with a memo below to describe the transaction). I hope you know, ‘Hello, how are you doing’ can be a sent message for just 0.1 Hive or whatever token is involved.

A friend I haven't been able to communicate with for a while sent me a message on Hive and I wasn't able to see it because we don't even see Hive as a messaging App. Just consider how we check our other social media accounts for new messages. In short, consider how you can encrypt a message and make it even more private in the case of sensitive information transactions.
So why haven't we turned our attention more to turning Hive into a social media and let the others flow in with time. If you ask me, I will say we have publicized this ecosystem wrongly most of the time. So new users showed up for passive income, stakew for rewards and platform dominance. How about a place to keep passing information, staying in touch with customers and clients, staying in touch with our loved ones or business colleagues? I guess this is where ALL the web2 platforms are having that hedge.
To conclude, let me add, Hive has so many ways to scale as an ecosystem and there is a need for us as users to also make the most of it. Personally, I will start sending most of my messages through Hive to those I communicate with often that happen to be on this platform. From here, it will keep me on alert that I am likely to get a message rather than just tipping or upvotes as notifications. Let's build from effective communication. So what is Hive? A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM and yes, with other tangible qualities.
