You know, in the course of trying to find out about the ongoing war in the Middle East, I had to delve into a quick discovery. Ever heard of DMZ? Yes, I am talking about the Demilitarized Zone. In simple terms, you can call it a no man’s land or a neutral territory.
Ok, I found out about three of such places; Antarctica, former Rhineland and what is called the famous 4 KM wide Korean DMZ. I will be focusing on the Korean DMZ. Ok, I never even knew such a place was famous in the first place. It is that demarcation that keeps the two Korean nations peaceful (maybe I should use the word ‘quiet’) because in actuality, the peace wasn't and till date is not confirmed.
Do I make a good Historian? Let me just give it a TRY. South Korea and North Korea have a long standing history and of course, there were times it was just a single nation. Tracing back to when it was under Japanese colonization for more than three decades; something that failed after the second world War.
This was how Korea was torn apart; The North for the Soviet Union and the South for the US. How can you explain that your land was divided without your knowledge; this is the scenario we are talking of here. In 1950, War broke out between this two countries as North was planning total dominance. Their invasion was backed by Soviet Union support while the US backed up South Korea in a war that lasted three years.
Finally, a ceasefire was signed in 1953 and well, one can call it a call to peace. Nevertheless, there is a need to look much deeper into it. First, one has to consider why North Korea keeps investing so much into weaponry, military and security tactics.

Two nations quietly just watching themselves 24 hours a day, 7 times a week between the neutral zone. The Korean DMZ happens to be one of the most dangerous and most guarded zones in the world. As I earlier said, peace wasn't confirmed and both sides walked away quietly.
We ALL know how restricted North Korea is and still under a family rule or the used English here; ‘dictatorship’. It seems like a prison on the inside for citizens who are trapped by a rejected but factual monarchical government.
It gets very difficult to explain how things actually happen in this country. Much of its investment has gone into weaponry with North Korea being one of the few countries with nuclear weapons.
To conclude, let me add, on the other hand, South Korea has opened up its economy for foreign investment and we know they have TOP players in the world of technology. Nevertheless, there both countries are still watching each other from the 4KM country distancing a.k.a Demilitarized Zone and well one can say, for how long?
