There is no happiness greater than the gains made. However, when one makes an exaggerated mention of them, in comparison with other individuals, they lose their genuine value.

A frog wanted to get away from the cold winter weather. But because he could not fly he asked two geese to help him pick up a strong reed, holding them by its ends. The frog thought to grab the reed by the mouth. And it was time to leave. After a while, villagers saw the strange spectacle. Someone asked:

  • Who came up with such a brilliant idea?
The proud frog, and as long as his merit was acknowledged, exclaimed:
  • To me!
That was his ruin: when he opened his mouth he let go of the cane, and fell into the void.

Vanity is a necessary and le gitima of ignorance; the man is a blind man who does not know how to see himself.
