Life is feeling like more and more like a giant deja vu trip.
I've been making these sports card posts, and well I'm starting to realize how life comes full circle, I guess?
I started collecting cards as a child because sports were cool and because I was told my father collected them, and well the proof was inside the big boxes in the basement. They were full of cards.
Looking back now, it's all sort of intense and eerie and also, cool kind of.
I have always been fascinated by cards. That is not unusual I guess.
Still, looking back, I remember a connection to those cards. My father collected them. He not only physically touched the same cards I looked through back then, but it felt like my dad left me an awesome hobby to get into and explore.
I was about six, seven, eight years old which means that my dad's passing was only 4-6 years before I started getting interested in the cards. I can only imagine what my family was thinking as I started getting interested. My dad's passing was probably still fresh, especially for my brother and mother. To me, my dad being alive was like a different world I never knew.
Still, a tiny little part of me always remembered my dad as though he was an old friend. Not sure why. My dad loved me, I can see that in the old home videos. I can tell by how my family and siblings talk about him. Maybe that's why I feel that way.
Also, being a dad now, I honestly feel like a connection is made between a father and child that lasts. My son knew EXACTLY who I was when he was two years old. That's when my own dad passed. In time, I may have forgotten him a bit, but I really am starting to wonder if like a tiny primitive part of my brain remembers him.
I always had a pretty strong memory. I'm pretty sure I remember flashes of my fourth birthday party. So I mean, two years before then my dad passed.
I always made sure I kept my cards around no matter where I moved over the past ten years.
Now I am writing about the cards I collected as a youngster, because of my dad.
In the tiniest of ways, my dad and I are sharing this hobby together, and now in the tiniest of ways, unless disaster strikes society, I am immortalizing our shared hobby.
