Who in My Family Am I Most Like? My answer will be my father. Unfortunately, my father had passed away before I could acknowledge his importance in my life. I didn't know I was going to lose him this early, otherwise I would have tried enough to know him thoroughly. At that age, I was unable to understand his thoughts or the kind of man he wanted me to become. Even now, I feel sad that I had missed the chance to know him properly. But as I started to grow up I could find pieces of him in myself.
I had found an old diary of my father in his belongings. It actually wasn't a diary just a book where he use to write down the things he needed to remember. There were some notes about who he had lent money to, things he needed to repair, and the names of the people who he wanted to visit. There was a specific note which was marked with red pen, there was only one sentence, “Do not forget to ask if they are okay.”
Honestly, that one sentence I wanted to work on it because that's what my father used to follow. Today, I'm a family man and I often find myself doing the thing I had promised myself to. When I see all of a sudden someone is quiet, I would try to cheer them up. When someone is worried, I would try to figure out the reason and try to help them if I am capable. Even if someone says they are fine I would still try to support them. Sometimes my wife tells me, “You have a great talent to notice when someone is in trouble.” At that time I feel that it's something I learned from my father without ever having a conversation with him.
My mother used to tell stories about my father, that how patient he was. So,I do not always make decisions quickly. I prefer to listen then explore about it. After that if my satisfaction level had reached then I will act. Sadly, I cannot explain how exactly was his personality and what kind of a person my father was like. But I can still feel a special connection between us even if he is not here with us anymore.
I have spent my my whole life, only to learn about him through what was left behind. In many ways, I feel I am carrying his unfinished story forward.
