Estrenada en 2020, esta cinta de animación nos presenta a Robyn, una niña decidida a seguir los pasos de su padre, un prestigioso arquero y cazador de lobos. Su misión es acabar con la manada que acecha los bosques próximos a la aldea fortificada.
Para demostrar que está a la altura, Robyn entrena a escondidas con su arco, aunque su espíritu inquieto siempre la termina metiendo en líos.
Su gran oportunidad llega cuando, casi por casualidad, logra colarse en el bosque prohibido.
What's it about?
Released in 2020, this animated feature introduces us to Robyn, a determined girl set on following in the footsteps of her father, a prestigious archer and wolf hunter. Her mission: to put an end to the pack that haunts the forests near the fortified village.
To prove she's up to the task, Robyn trains in secret with her bow, though her restless spirit always lands her in trouble.
Her big break comes when, almost by accident, she manages to sneak into the forbidden forest.

Porque esta película tiene alma; no es una copia de la copia. Posee una historia cálida que transmite empatía y supone una bocanada de aire fresco para el mundo de la animación. Lo que más gusta es que está realizada en dos dimensiones (2D), algo que se agradece ante la saturación de productos en 3D que rebotan, ladran, rasguñan y saltan sin coherencia ni sentido, solo para entretener a un público ávido de ver destellos y luces que parpadean acompasados por sonidos estridentes.
Why watch it?
Because this film has soul; it's not a copy of a copy. It has a warm story that conveys empathy and feels like a breath of fresh air in the world of animation. What stands out most is that it's made in 2D a welcome change amid the saturation of 3D products that bounce, bark, scratch and jump without rhyme or reason, just to entertain an audience hungry for flashes and blinking lights set to shrill sounds.

El estudio Cartoon Saloon se decantó por el trazo tradicional a mano, con doce ilustraciones por segundo, un despliegue artesanal que roza la obsesión. Aún más sorprendente es que prescindieron del clásico "jefe de storyboard", creando un ambiente casi familiar donde cualquier artista podía hablar directamente con los directores.

But Wolfwalkers holds as many secrets as it shows on screen. Did you know that Robyn was originally going to be a boy in early drafts, or that Mebh's mother was destined for a much more brutal ending?
The studio Cartoon Saloon opted for traditional hand-drawn animation, with twelve illustrations per second an artisanal feat bordering on obsession. Even more surprising is that they did away with the classic "storyboard supervisor", creating a family-like atmosphere where any artist could speak directly with the directors.

En lo sonoro, la cantante noruega Aurora puso su voz a un momento clave, pero su versión pop inicial chocaba con el alma ancestral del relato.
Lejos de rendirse, el equipo reconfiguró la pieza hasta transformarla en un canto folclórico que no solo encaja, sino que eleva la experiencia mística. Un cambio que, sin duda, salvó la atmósfera del largometraje.
On the sound front, Norwegian singer Aurora lent her voice to a key moment, but her initial pop version clashed with the ancestral soul of the story.
Far from giving up, the team reworked the piece until it became a folk chant that not only fits, but elevates the mystical experience. A change that undoubtedly saved the film's atmosphere.

Far from digital coldness, this technique infuses warmth, enhances the beauty of every shot and adds emotional weight to the story. And there's a detail that only reveals itself on a second viewing: in numerous sequences, the original charcoal and pencil strokes remain visible, creating organic textures and a sense of movement so genuine that the animation seems to breathe with its own life.

Wolfwalkers is, above all, a breath of fresh air in today's animation landscape. It's not a synthetic film; quite the opposite. It's a work that openly challenges the industrial standardisation of 3D, the mass-production and visual uniformity, opting instead for its own artisanal language.
Frente al ruido vacío de tantos productos comerciales, esta cinta ofrece una historia auténtica y llena de matices, tan estratificada como un pastel de mil hojas; cada visionado revela una nueva capa, una nueva emoción que se saborea con calma.
In the face of the empty noise of so many commercial products, this film offers an authentic and nuanced story as layered as a mille-feuille; each viewing reveals a new layer, a new emotion to be savoured slowly.
