Birds are privileged. They can see from above, fly and glide with the wind. Perhaps the bird that most identifies with the instinct for freedom is the seagull.
"A seagull flew, flew,
wings of wind,
heart of the sea.
Like her, we are free,
we are free to fly."
It's the chorus of a song that marked the struggle to overthrow the oppression of fascism in Portugal. The cry for freedom was urgent and the seagull symbolized this desire.
My stoic discipline obliges me to walk and observe whenever times get tense. It was on one of these hygienic walks that I focused on the movements of a seagull on the river that bathes my city, the River Mondego - Coimbra (Portugal).
After doing some research, I found out that it is an argêntea gull [Larus michahellis]. It's a bird about 60 cm long, with a gray back and gray wings with black edges and white “mirrors”.

Voo para a liberdade
As aves são umas privilegiadas. Vêem de cima para baixo, voam e planam ao sabor do vento. Talvez a ave que mais se identifica com o instinto da liberdade sejam as gaivotas.

É o refrão de uma música que marcou a luta pela queda da opressão do fascismo em Portugal. O grito pela liberdade era urgente, a gaivota simbolizava essa vontade.

A minha disciplina estóica obriga-me e a caminhar e observar sempre que os momentos são de tensão. Foi num destes passeios higiénicos que me foquei nos movimentos de uma gaivota, no rio que banha a minha cidade, o Rio Mondego - Coimbra.

Após pesquisa verifiquei que se trata de uma gaivota-argêntea [Larus michahellis]. É uma ave com cerca de 60 cm de comprimento, com o dorso cinzento e asas cinzentas com extremidades pretas e “espelhos” brancos.
