GOOD MORNING STEEMIANS!
It's been awhile since I've been real active on steemit, but I'm back on my grind. I could help but do a little but of exploration and dabbling in a few other fields. I feel like every month I have a little bit better idea of who I am as an investor, business person, and human being. I love life and I love the opportunity it presents us all.
As a steemian, I'm sure you are always on the look out for the next big thing in the crypto market. While the haters and nay-sayers say crypto is going zero, you and I both know there is so much opportunity right now (and the risk that goes with it).
I've been carefully watching and studying different blockchain projects, determining which ones I think are worth getting into.
The Blockchain Projects I'm Getting Involved With
Bitcoin
This is a big one for me. Since we are living in a time period of hysterical fiat currency printing, we have to be prepared for a huge loss in purchasing power. Luckily we now have a "digital gold" that can be used as a store of value and fungible means of transaction in Bitcoin.
Are there other coins that could be considered stores of value? Yes. But I believe Bitcoin is the standard and there is enough interest around it to keep improving it so that it can scale.
So far, Bitcoin remains dominant and seems to be the safe haven in the crypto space.
I did a long term analysis on Bitcoin's price showing the potential it has in the future. Check it out!
I believe Bitcoin will remain the standard in the crypto space. Banks and other institutions will use it as an inflation hedge, and individuals will exchange it for large transactions like buying real estate, a small business, and other investments.
I plan to position Bitcoin in my portfolio as something I can save and store away. This is going in the "hoard" section of my cryptos.
Decentraland
Decentraland is the first VR, sandbox world/game built on the Ethereum Network where you can buy land and create whatever you want on that land. There are still a lot of questions about what is going to come of decentraland. I believe that the possibilities are endless.
To purchase land, you first must get Decentraland tokens called MANA. These are the only tokens you can exchange for the digital land. There are theories that people might exchange MANA within decentraland, but who's to say people wouldn't rather exchange Ethereum or Bitcoin.
Here are some Ideas I have:
- A storage unit where users can store collectibles that they find in decentraland and rent the space out to them for a fee.
- A game or competition for a prize and have a viewing section where users can take part in side betting.
- A casino where users can win prizes or cryptocurrency
- Living quarters where users can log into decentraland and hang out in a lavish mansion with a view.
- An interactive puzzle with a prize when solved
Right now it's pretty difficult to even get on the server to view the land. By this I mean there isn't an intuitive app where you can just log on. You have to run a command prompt on your server. That's how new this project is.
Another crazy feature about decentraland is that you can actually take a mortgage out through the Ripio Credit Network. Imagine profiting through a mortgage paid through a renter, or carrying a property for a few years, letting it appreciate and mortgaging it to make a real world purchase.
The promise in decentraland lies in buying the land parcels. These parcels have a finite supply, which bring the scarcity model to the platform. On this land you can build whatever you want and even find ways to monetize this land. Think of it as virtual real estate.
While many users are focusing on buying and selling for profit, I plan on acquire a few parcels and keep them in my possession for the long term. I plan on working with developers to build on this land and monetize it, or rent to them while they build and monetize their projects on their own. I will then leverage my properties to buy more real estate in decentraland!
Steem (Steemit, Dtube and others)
What's fascinating about blockchain is that new issues are constantly being solved every day. When it comes to social media and content builders, there just hasn't been a sustainable foundation set for career writers, bloggers and vloggers to monetize their content.
The steem platform is a social blockchain built on the graphene network that allows content builders to get paid just through upvotes alone. Token are created and these tokens can be sold, or put back into the system. if you can create great content, you can earn Steem and Steem Dollars!
Here's the deal. I've heard a lot of worry out there that Steemit might die and it would be all for nothing to build a community on this platform.
All of these worries about Steem are ludicrous. I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of propaganda was put out there to shake you off of the platform.
Steem is a blockchain protocol. There are at least 5 networks including Steemit operating on Steem. This means that if Steemit goes bust and no one wants to use it anymore, you can take your tokens and use them on a different platform. You would be nuts to not be getting involved now more than ever!
My plan with Steem is to acquire a little bit more, but mainly focus on earning the tokens through great content like this article you're reading now!

Basic Attention Token (Advertising)
Okay, this is where things get really interesting for me.
You know those pesky advertisements that pop up on social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and everything else? These companies that are targeting you are using legal and ethically sketchy tactics to get a hold of your information. When they get this information, they are actually using YOUR DATA to supply it to them. So not only do they take your time, but they take your money through your phone bill as well. It's one of the reasons phone bills are increasing.
Brandon Eich, the creator of Firefox and Mozilla, is now working on a new web browser called Brave. This web browser allows you to decide whether or not you will allow advertisers to target you or not. If you do decide to allow it, you will be rewarded by the system for the ads that you view. You can use these tokens to donate to your favorite content creators, or pocket your tokens.
The way I'm going to play this is simply switch over to the Brave browser and start earning BAT tokens for the online research that I do every day. I will not be buying these tokens
Conclusion
This list that I've created is not the end all be all. For example, I am looking to earn Ethereum on platforms like Ethlance. But this doesn't mean I'm going to go out and buy Ethereum. Each cryptocurrency has it's use, and some aren't just meant to be horded like Bitcoin is. Most are meant to be earned and burned.
In this post I talked about Steem and BAT. These two tokens are powerful because you can earn them while engaging with content. These are real world internet income sources. However, I don't think either are meant to be hoarded away. They are meant to be used. Whether you are using them to invest in other things or using them to support your lifestyle, it doesn't matter. Just please use them for god-sake!
Bitcoin and Decentraland are the two main assets that I am looking to acquire and hold long term. Their scarcity models are what gives them value. I do plan to leverage these assets in the future, but I think it is foolish to be buying and selling them for profits. The true value comes in holding them for years on end. And who knows, either projects could crumble and never be used again. But that's the fun in being involved with cryptocurrency and blockchain. It's quite the ride isn't it?
