The Durban house is still not completed and one of the delays has been the window frames we have made do not quite fit and need to be adjusted slightly. I am not sure what slightly means in this case and is it a few millimeters or a few center meters and if it cannot be just trimmed down using a plain. If it needs to be adjusted up in size then it may take a day or two to complete.
The house should have been finished last week already and fully understand that these things can happen and I have not checked, but if I was in charge of this project there may only be two people remaining with the work needing to be completed.
This they were working on today and that is the kitchen ceiling in the granny flat that had water damage from a burst geyser last year and should have been completed by the insurance company. This makes me mad as I pay the insurance premiums and all i ask is those living on the property keep me informed of the work completed as I cannot chase it if I do not know the extent of the damage. I asked everyone countless times to tell me if the work is finished and was told by the insurance company all work had been done. This ceiling repair will be paid for out of my pocket now and there is nothing else I can do. It is what it is and maybe due to the age of the tenant they kept quiet or thought it would cost me more money to repair or something along those lines.
One of the reasons we went down to Durban a few weeks a go was to visit the mother in law who had a hip operation due to a fall. Luckily my handy man is in Durban and has been tasked with replacing her bath and installing a walk in shower instead. We are also paying for this 50/50 with the brother in law and have requested a walk in hotel type shower and not a cubicle kit form.
The quote is more than reasonable coming in at R23K which is around $1.5K which includes $400 labor. This is tiling and plumbing plus installing the shower and screening whilst also removing the bath that is in situ.
This is not a price one can quibble over and have already given the go ahead as my head was telling me at least another $500 more. This will take two days to complete so I should see the team back later this week.
This is all good news as the end result would have been achieved and we can finally get the property on the market. Who knows if the tenant will buy the property or not as that is his prerogative and it will be on the market next month. I am hoping to get the final photographs later this week which will show how the property has transformed over the last month. Slightly over budget, but in all honesty this was always expected with all the unknowns encountered along the way.
