I wrote a post earlier this week where my grandson has started a new school and even though this has only been a couple of days he has already made an impact on those around him. This is a story I had to share as it was so unexpected.
His teacher asked him on Friday why was he so happy to bb at school because it is that obvious. His reply was that he is happy to be at school and learn and to have found a school he loves and can call home. This reply had the teachers room in tears because this was such an unexpected reply. They had no idea that joining this school was so important for him.
My grandson or "little man" as I call him speaks whatever he is thinking and this was a proper genuine answer that blew them all away. This moved the school teachers and principal so much they phoned my daughter and asked if there were any other kids from the special needs school they could also help. We will inquire but also not sure if those parents could afford the schools fees as this is on the high end.
My grandson is "labelled" special needs even though he is normal besides his poor eyesight so spotting that he is not normal is not obvious. I think he is old enough to understand that he is a little different, but he does not see that as a disability. The other kids at his special needs school were not so lucky and why my grandson was like a fish out of water which did concern us.
What he wanted was normality with no labelling and a school that was not going to be moving every month. Most of his friends that he once had over the last 6 months had found new schools and we were struggling to find the right one. A school that would include them into their system allowing him to learn using whatever special reading tools he may require.
In just two days he has already been rewarded with a merit prize which was a kids meal at one of the local steak houses so this school could be more costly if this becomes the normal. He is very clever so this could be the new normal knowing what he is capable of.
One of the plusses is this is a Christian school with Christian values and they have a demerit system on language so there is no blasphemy or swearing tolerated. I do curb my language around the kids but the parrot swears so this kind of gives me away with his WTF when people walk past and it is actually quite funny. I would much prefer he did his replication of jet engines instead from his 3 month stint at Heathrow Airport animal quarantine based at the end of the runways. I can imagine some of you on here who would struggle with trying to control your language because bad habits are hard to break.
Wherever we go my grandson is welcomed with smiles and even when he is not with us we are asked where is he? The shop staff are always looking out for him and when they see him they make a point of coming to say hello. We have noticed the difference as my grand daughter does not get the same welcoming committee everywhere she goes so this little man is rather special.
