Something happened to me days ago that further gave me the confirmation that my decision to not work under someone to cater for my needs, is quite valid. In fact, it boosted my zeal to focus on my growth do that I can achieve all the goal I have set for my self when it comes to my career. I realized that the outside world is actually crazy and can demand so much of your life's time. It can literally make you forget your own dreams because you might not have time for anything else.
I am a youth Corp Member currently serving her country, and while going through the Hassel of getting a place to work for the required period of time. When I visited the work place I found, the details I got after shocked me. I was told that I would be working on Monday till Saturday (except from Thursdays that are meant for a compulsory NYSC activity) and that work hour was 8am to 6pm. Imagine that please, I will literally have no time for my personal life anymore. The course I have been learning will be on hold with that kind of schedule. My life would be only about work for the next ten months and I couldn't afford to let that happen.
I wonder how the workers in that place actually survive on that type of schedule. Working mondays to saturdays and from 8am to 6pm is actually crazy and I wonder how they have time for other things in their lives. These days, the official official work hours is between 9am to 5pm, so 8am to 6pm is kind of extreme to me. There is no way you will work till 6pm and not get tired when you finally get home and you might just be able to do few things before you are forced by your body to rest. You cannot dare to sleep too late because you have to be gone again very early the next morning and the cycle repeats itself every single day.
No wonder a wise man once said 'Your salary is the bribe you are given to forget your dreams' and for real, where is the lie in that?
Also, I would love to not be delusional and say that everyone should be business owners. No matter what, there will always be workers and they are a really important part of the society. To private and public institutions and establshments, workers are like the pillar that hold them together. So, in my opinion, they actually out to be treated well and also given the opportunity to have a life outside of work.
The shift system out to be embraced, so that workers will have free days that they can use to do other important things. Honestly, working four days in a week is quite fair, it will even be better when the work is rotated among the workers. That will mean that the office or organization will still be able to carry out their activities each day without any problem and the workers will actually have a comfortable working system as well. For the working hours, I think this will vary from one business to another but on an average, it shouldn't be too inconvenient as well.
I have decided that when I finally establish my brand physically, I will not choke my workers with work and I will make sure they don't work more than 4 days in a week if not less. There will be a sort of roster that will make the work system convenient for them. Workers deserve to have a life outside of work, they don't have to feel stuck just because they are working for someone.
