Your eyes fluttered, and you groggily awoke; your bed was your domain and just how you liked it. Today, you had work. It was the weekend, so today was a Friday and all that, but it wasn't normal for you because today was also Jack's birthday. Jack loved birthdays, it was his favorite holiday and he loved singing happy birthday to you and eating cake. Jack loved you, more than anything in the world; you were his family.
Jack was your bestfriend, he would do anything for you. He was the one that told you about magic. He had lived his whole life believing in it. He wanted to be there for you too, because you had been there for him, and nothing made him happier than to be able to be there for you. So when he saw something and couldn't un-see it, he took you with him. He took you to where you went with your parents to get your birthday presents for a special surprise.
His birthday is August 19th, and January 18th he has Bladder Control. On his birthday he passes little footballs to you at the ball games. He has no idea how he does it, it was just a natural talent. So you took him with you as you went to get his breakfast. He saw something and this time he couldn't un-see it. He saw a low flying car driving down the street with something hovering in the air above it, floating along with it, a fairy. This couldn't just be a dream, like a floating human would have been the first thing you would have thought.
He took you to his house, where you knew he had books. He wanted to show you, so you could believe it was real, like he did. He read you a story about a human and a demon, and your eyes made him believe beyond a shadow of a doubt, this is real.
You started reading your favorite series, The Three Musketeers, together. This time, you were reading it for him. He was reading a book every day, you could see it in his eyes how he was learning and getting better every day. He didn't know much about magic, and you were learning about demons. Demons were like the enemy of the fairies, but you liked them. You read all the books in the series, and the whole series had a lot, so it took you a while.
For a year you were together, and then you started to realize that something was wrong. He spent a lot of time at the library, and you didn't think twice about it. You just thought of it as odd, because you didn't know he spent a lot of time here. You didn't know he was learning what you were reading him. The problem was he didn't know what you were reading him.
It happened late one evening, when he was reading your favorite book, from the series, The Count of Monte Cristo. He was ready to take the final task, to make your friend love him, for his family, and his new love. You were asleep, dreaming about the good times you had together, about him. He was lying awake next to you, stroking your hair when he saw it. He couldn't un-see it. He saw a demon.
Jack sat up, and pulled away from you. He wasn't ready for this. He started calling to his brother for help. He didn't know where the demon was, he just knew that it was bad, and that it was coming to take you away, tomorrow night.
You tried to get up, but your ankle was throbbing, so you started for the door, sneaking one last look as he called his brother. He was so scared that he was running down the hall to find you. Your heart was beating out of your chest, and you were not sure if you should make it out of the hallway in time, or not. You were trying to make it up the stairs, but your ankle was cramping up, you couldn't lift it to walk.
Jack made it to the bottom of the stairs, and watched his brother and a bunch of fairies fly through the air. He stopped, and watched his brother try to get you out. Your hands knocked over a vase of flowers, breaking it, and the little fairies fluttered away. Jack was frozen by the floor, watching his brother fight with the leader of the fairies.
The mystic was winning, until he broke something magical inside of it, and the mystic fell, and the room dissolved around him. Jack was still standing there, frozen. The mystic wasn't moving, but the fairies had cleared out.
