Through His Influence
Since I have been in this town, I have never seen the opportunity of teaching in Lekki town as some of my coworkers do mention the huge amount they pay teachers most especially when you have a private lesson. So, this has been giving me serious concern as to when I could have the opportunity of teaching in this area, even if it is having private lesson students.
The fact remains that when you have just two lesson students over there, you would smile home with a tangible amount of money, which would be three times more than your salary if not four times. Being a novice, I started searching for my friends working in this area but found none who would connect me to parents who want to have a private lesson teacher for their wards.
One of my colleagues who had left for a higher paid school, started having private lesson students and was paid heavily. I thought I would use his influence to have private lesson students. I started expecting as I had told him to help me look for one if not two private lesson students. I was so selfish trying to ask for two instead of one.
He was turning me down and was not ready to get me one. I don't know if the fault was from him or if he was truly finding it difficult to get one for me. So, I decided to let go of the thought of getting lesson students from this said area.
I was so sure that my handiwork would at least show itself one day. Two years later, one of my former colleagues gave me a call. We spoke normally and greeted each other. After speaking for a few minutes, he said *I have a brother who needed a lesson teacher for his two children. One is in SSS1 one while the elder one is in SSS2. Their dad wants a teacher who can teach them physics, mathematics, and further mathematics". I laughed and replied to him "Thank God you knew these are the subjects which I can gyrate with. I do call these subjects my area of gyration, you know". He laughed.
I asked him "Will the students be coming to my school to have the lesson or how do they want to do it?"
"Ah, my brother lives in Lekki", he replied.
On hearing Lekki, my ears stood so wide, and deep within me was having a feeling of joy.
"You will be going there to teach the children. I will send your number to him now." He said.
Before hanging up the call, I made sure to ask him to give me a hint on how much the lesson would cost as I have no idea of how they bill in Lekki.
"Tell him 150K during which I'm pretty sure he is going to reduce it to something like 80k or 70k", he said. I was deeply happy deep inside of me. At last, my dream of having a lesson student from this reputable town has come to fulfillment due to connection. Within some minutes, the man called me and after negotiating, we concluded with 70k. "This was a huge amount", I echoed, filled with joy.
Now, I'm so happy teaching in this reputable area. I got connected through my colleague and now, I have been teaching the children anytime they are on break.
