It's 4:37 pm and I'm still slightly tipsy from my first glass of wine in many, many months. It's been a very easy, yet eventful day, all 8992 steps of it.
It started about 12 hours ago when my alarm was about to go off. I was dreaming about something interesting before being pulled out of dreamland and remembering I was human and that it was Saturday and that meant heading to parkrun.
Since we had three things we wanted to do today I had asked Brad if we could go to a parkrun that was going to be convenient and efficient (driving-wise). That had us heading to the somewhat wet, newly re-opened Logan River parkrun. It was one of the parkruns within cooee of here that had been totally smashed by all the recent rain and the local community had experienced more cancellations than they would have liked in the last couple of months.
They were stoked to be back on, even if it was drizzling for much of our time there. Lucky for us, parkrun has recently allowed pacing to restart at local events and it was pacer week this week and they still needed a bunch of pacers! So Brad and I both grabbed a pacer volunteer vest for a time we felt comfortable we could each run and off we went! (Him with 24 minutes as the goal and me with 36 minutes... gosh, it will be nice when I can run faster again!)
I hadn't paced in... years. I forgot how much I have to look at my watch. I was checking my target pace (7:12/km) every 10 seconds I reckon! Lucky the course is really quite flat (except for a little rise up and over a bridge) as it makes it so much easier to pace!
And I was very pleased with myself; I crossed the finish line (see my watching my watch!) at 35:59 by my watch and that lady just in front of me in the yellow was determined to beat me. So glad I could help her to do that 馃槉
Once parkrun was done and dusted we headed to visit Brad's family for our brief (and lovely) weekly visit. They're always keen to hear about our parkrun adventures and wanted a proper catch up on my work news and how it's all been going. It's nice to have family that are interested in what I'm up to.
Thankfully, we got some down time at home to catch up on washing and some Hive replies, and while we were resetting at home I discovered that I've just become a Minnow!! Woot woot! I'm very proud of my efforts on here and my willingness to learn and try new things. But I'm also very, very grateful to everyone who has supported, encouraged, upvoted and shared their love for my words and work. If you've been one of those people at any point in time, thank you!
Then before I could write a post for today it was midday and time to head out for a birthday drinks get together for one of our running mates; Tim. Over 3 hours I managed to drink just one glass of red wine, eat half a vegan, gluten free pizza and scoff just one single, tiny, ridiculously-tasty-but-probably-full-of-crap piece of cake. Over that time there were probably twice as many people as shown in the photo as people came and went. It meant I got to have decent conversations with at least half a dozen different people, avoiding the people who bore or annoy the heck out of me 馃槈 Having not seen most of these people for several months it was fun to catch up with so many friendly acquaintances all at once.
And that's probably enough wine, pizza and cake for me for this... year 馃ぃ When we got home the first thing I did was make a green smoothie for my dinner!!! Meanwhile, the wine is still wearing off 馃榿
How did your Saturday go?
