As I wander the city streets
In search of sustenance
I spy the scraps of food
And eagerly begin to scavenge.
The smell of sour dumpsters
Into my nose it rushes
And I can't help but feel disgusted
But nevertheless, I must find food.

A rat darts out of nowhere
And I shriek in fear
But I quickly realize
That it's just a simple animal.
I take a deep breath
And continue to search the trash.

This was a tale from the city of Lazarus. A dystopian metropolis half sunken in the sea. War and climate change took its toll on this and every other city we know. This is one short tale of a young woman and her daily life surviving in the ruble of the modern world.
