Little things sometimes leave a lasting impression on people’s mind. Why? Because most people have stopped doing the little things. They always wait for when the conditions are right to do big and greater things.
There was this joke going on around back then. The husband was narrating things to another friend of his about his wife. The lady happened to be really wealthy and the husband, not so much. He told the friend: Collins, what do you give to someone who has everything? What do you give to someone that can afford anything? The friend replied and said, Give a kiss.
What I am able to get from that is that he should give a little more appreciation and focus on the little things. Of course, it is not as if they don’t kiss as couples (maybe they don't), but there are some kisses you give in appreciation of what the person has done or just did. Well, the married people should help me out here hahaha. There are some kisses that weigh much more than words. For such a person, get the simple stuff. Compliment every one of their efforts and appreciate them with little gifts and words. Let them know you are deeply appreciative of having them in your life. It goes a long way.
Last year, our director at work clocked another year. This man has everything. He can afford anything. So, what do we get for him? Cake? A lot of people get him that often. Car? We can’t afford it yet hahaha. What do we get? I discussed with my fellow workers and told them we should get him lemons and some other stuff. I picked lemons because there were countless times he asked me to help him buy them and he would give me the money for it.
Thank God, he came to work on that day, and I stepped out to get them. I came back, dropped them in his car with the hampers. He was leaving for home when he opened his car and he asked who dropped those items. I said it is our token of love and appreciation to him. He was so excited. It was not so much about how much, but the intentions behind it. He said, wow! You people know I love lemons and you got this? He said he appreciated the lemons even more, because of the health benefits he derives from it. We all laughed.
This year, he came a day after his birthday to work as well. He asked me to get some stuff for him again and he gave me money. We all agreed to get him stuffs again, they asked me to buy what I feel is good and right. I got all the things he asked me to get for him, and for his cereals, I got extras for him and few other things, like honey, and the rest. It was really full. He noticed the items doubled and he wondered why. I told him again, that is for his birthday, a token from every single one of us. He was so excited that he prayed and prayed for everyone.
Little gesture matters. You wouldn’t know until you try it.
