As has become our tradition recently, my pandemic partner and I made our weekly pilgrimage to the game shop to score some new Magic cards this past Saturday.
I got a little carried away and bought a bunch of packs (not having kids hath its perks)but one in particular made my day. Until about a month ago I had not purchased any Magic cards since the mid 2000s, so the variety of types of packs is still a bit bewildering. Still, I've taken a liking to these set booster packs.
If I understand them correctly, aside from the guaranteed foil and art card (do those have a use besides looking cool?) the chance to get extra rares/mythics is the main selling point. I usually try and get a set booster pack each time I am at the shop but until today my results have been less than impressive.
That changed with today's pack, which had two rares, plus a mythic planeswalker.
Planeswalker and commander are completely new to me, I've yet to play a game of either (I'm going to change this right after I post this) so I'm none too good at judging their abilities. Once I looked up Wrenn and Six online I started to realize what I had on my hands. Not only was it worth a nice little bit (~$50) but it's potential for mischief has gradually dawned on me.
This critter was my foil, I'd be a bit more impressed if I hadn't pulled two of the non-foil version from the prerelease box a week or two ago.
None of the other cards in the pack really jumped out at me although I may revise that after some experimenting.
H/t to @jacobtothe for pointing me in the direction of magic on the hive. I keep kicking around the idea of getting one of the collectors packs, any of yall ever mess with those pricy things?
