It's Friday once again and you know what that means, time for another one of those rambling #fridayfreewrite posts. Feel free to join in the nonsense yourself, there's no reward for participation, I'm just having a bit of fun.
Good music makes everything better! Whenever I write or work on photos I've gotta have something playing and today is no exception. The Brave browser strips out all the annoying ads on youtube so I mostly use that as my jukebox. Today while poking around on there for something to listen to during the freewrite I discovered that the Black Keys have a new album out, Delta Kream. It's a cover album of Mississippi hill country blues, I've only listened to about half of it so far but that's been pretty damn good. It's just shy of an hour long, if you want to check it out, here is where I heard it.
Raven here would like to remind you not to think of this as the hottest summer of your life but rather as the coolest summer of the rest of your life! I get cold easily so I'm rather fond of warmer weather but some of this is pushing even my limits. Monday it made it to 97F (36C) here which is a bit warm for this early in the summer. How's everybody's summer goin? (or winter for you Southern Hemisphere folks)
These photos are all from gallivanting about Canyonlands National Park outside Moab, Utah a few years back (2017). I've been flipping through some of my older photos and that has made me want to hit the road and go exploring. Since most of the places I'd like to head for are either on fire or hotter than hell right now I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm another year older next week and although that's a less thrilling prospect than it once was I still like to mark the occasion by doing something. I'd rather not feel like I'm reenacting a scene from Dune so I'm not quite sure what I'll get into.
Speaking of Dune, is anyone planning on going to see the new movie? Recently saw where they pushed its release date back (again) a few weeks to Oct 22nd. I love the book and the first movie set the bar so low that it'll be hard for this one to be worse so I might actually watch it.
Speaking of bad science fiction movies, did anybody ever watch Battlefield Earth? I was given the book by a teacher in high school and enjoyed it, even with the oddly vehement hatred of psychiatrists the author had. It was only years later that I realized that the author was also the founder of Scientology, which kinda put a damper on my enthusiasm for the book. Anyways, I hadn't realized that when I discovered that there was a movie based on the book and got a bit excited and rented it from the local video store (I'm pretty sure it was still on VHS). I have never been more disappointed in a movie in my life (the fact that John Travolta was in it should have been a big red flag), damn thing only covered the first two hundred or so pages of a thousand plus page book.
It's about time I get the hell out of Dodge, y'all stay cool and drink lots of water!
