Setting foot in Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky is almost like going back in time two hundred years. Old stone fences line the road leading to Shaker Village, hinting at times long past. The Shakers are long gone but much of what they made is still around today.
We were there early in the year, between the covid restrictions and the cold it was largely deserted. It almost seemed like it was just us and the ghosts. Well, and the ducks...
One of the really neat things about Shaker Village is that you can spend the night in many of the buildings there. Most of the buildings have portions that are open to the public and set up like it was in the Shakers' day. The other parts of the buildings are for rent, turned into rooms/suites with the modern conveniences one would expect.
Surrounded by rolling hills that once were farmland, you get a sense that life moves at a slower pace there.
What had once been the main road is now a gravel walking path through the middle of the village.
We just spent one night there but I could have spent more, I ran out of time before I ran out of things to see.
I don't think the Christmas lights were authentic though...
I keep meaning to go back and explore some more but haven't quite made it yet (there's a lot of places on that list). Until that happens I guess I will have to be content with looking at photos from there. Now where did I put my time machine?
