It's Friday! You know what that means! Not only is the weekend nearly here but it's time for another #freewritefriday! I started doing it as a way to break through writer's block and had enough fun with it that I'm continuing with it. Feel free to join in, there's not much to it besides using the tag and writing whatever comes to mind (plus I have a surplus of ecency points that I'm using to boost participants).
Last week I was talking about the possibility of Kabul falling to the Taliban, holy hell that didn't take long to happen. Seems nobody wanted to be the last person to die in a war that was already lost. Governing and being the opposition are two different critters entirely, anyone want to make a bet on how long it takes before the Taliban is facing an insurgency against them?
Speaking of dying at the very end of a war, I'm pretty sure Henry Gunther is a great example of what not to do. The guy charged some machine guns a minute before the armistice ending World War I went into effect, knowing full well the war was already over.
The Kentucky State Fair started yesterday, I'm going to go for a bit tomorrow and take some photos. It's been a while since I took photos of people, I've been missing it. I entered four photos into the photography competition, I've been obsessively refreshing the results page since yesterday but it still just tells me they coming soon. Good enough for government work in action I suppose.
The fair was closed last year to all but those doing the livestock competitions so I didn't get to go. I'm going to see if I can squeeze two years worth of fair photos out of this year's fair to make up for it. Exhibitors get cheap tickets so I might be able to pull it off, brace yourselves for lots of fair photos.
I won't be doing a #fridayfreewrite post next week, I'll be en route to my next adventure. There's a march in DC next Saturday and we intend to be there (and take photos). Anybody got some fun plans for the weekend?
(Photos are in order: elk in the clouds in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Pacific coast in Oregon, and a shot from Arches National Park in Utah)
