This past weekend was a long one, with Monday being the 'Labor Day' they give us instead of May Day or liveable wages, which also means it's Worldfest time once again.
Worldfest always draws a good crowd to downtown Louisville, with the city expecting 150,000 people to partake in this year's iteration of the annual four day shindig.
This was only my second time going, went last year and it was peak street photography, wasn't going to miss it this year. Saturday was the last of the most recent hotter than the hinges of hell weather, but Sunday was perfect for shooting, with a heat index of only 90F.
As I was prepping to head out, learned there'd been a fight the night before and so for "security" they were banning large bags and backpacks. It worked so well with school shootings, why not fights too?
Worldfest is meant to be a celebration of the cultures and communities that make up this city, but with the mayor's decision last year to end Louisville's sanctuary city status and cooperate with ICE, it rings a little hollow. That's no shade on Worldfest, just a city government talking out both sides of its mouth.
It was definitely one hell of a celebration, with food, music and performances, local groups and an assortment of vendors. Even met a couple local street photographers out taking it all in.
There was plenty to take in, more than enough to go around. A world's worth, even.
