I battled with and eating disorder from the age of 14 until 23 which effected many aspects of my health. I finally had enough and decided to take my health and power back! I needed a plan, and that was to first get mentally fit and then physically fit. I saw a counselor for a long time while simultaneously taking a fitness and nutrition course. My main focus was to learn as much as I could about diet and how to have a good relationship with food again. Eat to live not live to eat.
Because I was bulimic, my gut and bowels were damaged, so I had to really concentrate on repairing them. I learned just how important micro- organisms are in our guts and how these life-long companions influence just about every aspect of our body’s normal functions such as digestion, appetite, immunity, mental health, weight management, and even exercise performance. I take a probiotic for women as well as drink sweetened skimmed milk fermented with a single strain of friendly bacteria that I buy from our local farmers market. I also eat a spicy Kimchi and drink a tumeric elixer also from the local farmers market. When you can buy fresh home made from the health store or local merchant. Moonshinemamas is a great brand for Tumeric, and Farmhouse Culture is a great brand for gut elixers with beet juice.
I have been on my health journey for 24yrs now and talk to other young girls about body positivity and how to break free from the eating disorder chains.
