My first dessert entry since I started participating in the Steemit Iron Chef contest! This was so good!
And I'm still working on pretty, but I think I'm getting closer:
My quenelles are a little rough, still, but I'm getting there. :-)
I took a dark-chocolate ice cream recipe that I've enjoyed in the past and added candied orange peel. This is me candying the peel, in three pictures:
So I cut these peels up into much smaller pieces (though maybe not small enough) and at the end of the churn, I added a cup of them and three drops of orange blossom water.
I wanted to use orange in as many form-factors as possible, so in addition to the heavily oranged ice cream, I made an orange syrup, oven-dried orange slices, orange zest sprinkles, and orange-peel garnishes.
this is me drying the orange slices with some ginger and sugar sprinkled on:
This is me making the orange syrup sauce:
And then I assembled all my elements and started putting together a plate:
I was most careful getting that long, narrow plate together that you saw up at the top of this post. The other two that I made looked more like this, with all the same elements, and just as tasty, but maybe less photogenic:
I used four big oranges completely and much of the peel and zest from two others, plus orange blossom water, Cointreau orange liqueur, and other non-orange ingredients.
Did I mention this was delicious? :-D
