Heritage Day in South Africa is a public holiday designed to remind us all of where we come from. Many of us dub it Braai Day as that's what most South Africans like to do!

Zak has become an absolute expert at braaing garlic bread, which is actually quite an art! Normally I cheat and stick it in the oven, but Zak has found a way to braai it perfectly, every time!
Boerewors (truly South African-style sausage is a must for any braai! The trick for this is to get it just right too, not overcooked, but just done enough to retain flavors and juices. There's a trick for that too but I'm not giving away Zak's secrets!
The kids all get involved, from setting up the outside lights to building the fire and then, even helping with the actual cooking!
It's an all in family experience and we are all always rewarded with delicious food. Also, we almost always braai too much, another South African tradition - and although we didn't have My potato salad, we sure had a feast and I got to enjoy my leftovers the next day!
