SUCH IS LIFE.
Sometimes saying the truth and to be of helping hand can result to a regrettable show.
Relax and read through the write up, I will explain how everything happened between me and a long time friend.
I sat by the edge of my bed, my phone directly in front of me, staring at it re-reading the message that just came in from Sam that took me by surprise.
"You betrayed Me, Nwafor. I never expected this from you."
My stomach twisted, the type that will make you so uncomfortable. Betrayed him? How?, the question I asked myself, I was just trying be of help.
Just last month I had put in some calls to my cousin working in a construction company in Abuja just to help this my friend secure a job interview, which I hoped it will result for him to be taken. I never did made any promises.
He has been struggling, moving from one place to another in search for a job, so coincidentally he asked me and I said I might help out.
So when my cousin told the company was hiring but made specification clear that they needed courses related to construction but if incase it's not related but he or she has experience on it then it's satisfactory. I quickly let my friend know that it's a 50 50 chance because he wasn't in the field of construction. I told since you're my close friend my cousin might find a way to patch you up, maybe then he thought he has gotten the job already
Not until last week I was gisting with my cousin then asked him if he later worked it for he couldn't, it was a very hard one because he had no experience or skill relating to construction to back it up.
I immediately called my friend it rang and no answer, I tried later same thing not until at night, I saw the text, I called again he picked up and yelled at me that " I know what you did", "you that betrayed me". At first I was confused if he was referring to someone else. Did someone made you angry I asked and he hissed and cut the call. I was shocked and surprised same time. I kept calm and waited for the right moment we would meet facially
Thn realising that it would be a while I return to base I decided to call back again to understand what's really happening. The next word I heard when he picked was "Guy what do you want?"
Did I do something wrong, why the harsh response towards me on phone?.
I was like, I never made a promise that you must get the job, neither is my cousin the CEO that the job is automatically secured for you. He courageously said I went behind his back to tell my cousin he wasn't qualified.
I had to let my conscience speak out by telling him maturely "were you even qualified at first?", deep down you know you weren't but we had to try our luck which didn't work out, then why the attitude towards me, because I tried to help out. I told him blatantly I regretted the action I took.
I had to say to him wholeheartedly, I wish him the best in life, where as I was just enduring the pain.
Such is life indeed. Sometimes even your best intentions can be twisted by your friends into something ugly and regrettable.
But I'm all ready to my capacity to render help regardless.
This is my weekly prompt week45.
