Merlin was a young guy who arrived in Camelot with a big secret. He possessed a very powerful magic at a time when magic was forbidden in the kingdom of Camelot and feared. Whoever possessed any form of magic was seen as someone who practiced dark magic and the punishment was death, King Uther made sure of that.
Imagine possessing powerful magic but having to hide it from the very kingdom you were trying to protect.
Yet, despite having to hide such an important part of himself, he had a very big responsibility, that was to protect the prince of Camelot, Arthur. At first, it seemed almost impossible because Prince Arthur was arrogant and proud, but as the movie progressed, they became best friends and were inseparable.
Despite Arthur thought Merlin was a weakling, he always took him along whenever he was going on a quest and there was one thing Arthur never knew, Merlin was always protecting him with the same magic his father, King Uther, forbade.
Every time Merlin secretly saved Arthur, he risked exposing himself. Every time he chose to use magic, he risked becoming the very thing Camelot feared. Yet he continued because he believed Arthur's destiny was worth protecting. Merlin knew Arthur was destined to be a great king and he was destined to stand by him.
It was a very difficult task for Merlin because his greatest strength became his greatest burden. He was very powerful, yet he had to hide who he was because if they discovered the truth, his years of service to Camelot would be counted as nothing and he would surely face a painful punishment.
Another character I didn't know if I loved or hated was Morgana 😅. I loved the fact that she made the movie more interesting.
At first, she acted as though she cared about Arthur and Camelot. But as the movie progressed, she began unveiling the evil buried inside her. She changed as a result of fear, manipulation and betrayal. She was so evil and the movie even got more interesting when she now possessed magic. She was an epitome of beautiful with a big touch of evil🤣.
A character I loved so much was Gaius. He was more than a mentor to Merlin. He was a father figure, and was always ready to protect Merlin. He was one of the few people who understood Merlin. He knew about his magic, but never disclosed a word of it to anyone, no matter the circumstance. He was a man of wisdom and always kept Merlin form making bad choices.
Gaius may not have been the strongest warrior or the most powerful sorcerer, but his wisdom, compassion and courage made him an unforgettable part of Merlin🥰.
At some point,the movie became more emotional 😭.
Merlin wasn't just fighting against evil sorcerers. He forgot so hard to protect the future he believed in even though it meant sacrificing his own happiness. And at the end, his efforts wasn't even acknowledged.
Arthur's death was devastating. It was highly unexpected. After years of fighting beside him, protecting him and believing in the future they were supposed to build together. After everything Merlin did, his greatest fear later came to pass. It was a very emotional and heartbreaking scene 😭.
The most painful part was that Arthur never fully understood the extent of Merlin's sacrifice. That was the tragedy of Merlin: the wizard who helped create the legend had to watch the legend slip away🥺.
