African parents will tell you that honesty isi the best policy and that you should tell the truth at all times. They'll even use the Bible standard to tell you that "if you lie, you will go to hell." What they fail to tell you is that there are exceptions to this policy.
Don't fall for that. It can be a trap.
I just heard a story this morning and it's just too funny for me to keep to myself. Here goes;
So, my friend said that back then when the indigenes of his hometown who were resident in the same city hosted their end-of-ths-year parties in member's houses, they did it turn by turn.
A certain year, they all trooped to the host member's house. It was always done in a grand style with lots of food, drinks and fun. He was very much younger at the time.
His father being a foodie will eat everything that passed while his mother was on one side giving him the bombastic side eye. He(my friend) on the other hand was pretending not to see his mother.
He said he saw all of the silent drama going on between his parents but he did not want to get involved to avoid transfer of aggression.
Not long after his dad had eaten the whole menu, he called the host's child and said Nna, kedu ebe toilet unu dị?"(dear, where is your toilet?)
The boy took him to another room to use the toilet, while my friend's mum was pacing around. She was pissed. My friend kept really quiet becaaue any little movement he made could lead to WWE.
He was just enjoying the party until about 30minutes later when it dawned on him that his father was nowhere in sight. He looked around and caught his mother's eye and she signalled him to come.
She told him to go around and look for his father and wven thiough he was not happy about the errand, he dare not disobey. He followed the same way the host's son had taken his dad and began knocking on doors until at last his father answered.
Then he called out to him and he answered and said, "gaa kpọọ nne gị na nsi'm ekwero aflush"(go and call your mother, my shit refused to flush). He ran outside and codedly dragged his mother to the place he was.
His mother shouted "kedu kwánú ka nsi gị ga flush ebe ina eri nri since ka onye ishi"(why would your shit flush when you have been eating like thief?)
My friend quietly left them there and went back to join the party. Not long after, he saw his parents return to the party, his father smiling wide. They rejoined and began dancing.
Not up to an hour, the host of the party took the microphone and asked, "kedu onye ji nsị nyujupu toiñet mere na okweghi aflush"(Who messed up the toilet that made it refuse to flush?) The DJ turned off the music and everywhere fell silent.
My friend's father began shouting, "who is that person without manners that would dare do something so terrible." My friend said he was shocked. He remembered all of his Sunday school lessons and for fear of burning in hell fire, he decided to say the truth.
From where he was seated, my friend quietly raised his hand and said "oo daddy'm nyuru ndị mana ikwere flush"(its my father that pooped but it refused to flush). As if someone pressed the power button of a remote, everybody started shouting at his at the same time, including his wife.
He said he saw his father's face change, all the wires in his head were almost popping out, even his eyes turned red. He said at that point, he knew it was a call to glory situation. Next thing, his father held his mother's house and his mother held his hand and they journeyed home in silence.
They had not even entered into their compund gate fully when his father descended on him.
His father pounced on him and he found himself at the gate of heaven but angel Sarafina refused to let him enter. Even hell was locked against him. Three times, he went to heaven but was denied access. For each time his father pounced on him, he journeyed to glory but was rejected in the spiritual and when he came back to the physical, his father continued from where he stopped.
Ever since then, he had detached himself from honesty.
Thanks for gracing this post.
Greetings!
