El nuevo año futbolístico empieza en Manchester sin demasiados cambios a lo que hemos visto en los últimos años, con un City que se mantiene en liga intratable, pese al cambio en la dirección deportiva, mientras que el United no termina de levantar cabeza, y tras apenas 5 jornadas jugadas, ya parece que se baja de la pelea por la Premier League, al resagarse a 10 puntos de la cima. Y esto es especialmente llamativo, pues los Diablos Rojos cerraron el año pasado como el mejor equipo de Inglaterra, hablando únicamente de puntos conseguidos en la liga.

And I won't lie to you, seeing Carrick's first few months in charge of the team gave me some hope that things were going to improve at Old Trafford, because I liked the simplicity of his approach, putting players like Bruno Fernandes back in positions where they could unleash their potential, and leaving behind the complicated schemes of Rúben Amorim, which I sometimes struggled to understand from the comfort of my sofa.

Con el United no se que pensar, pues no creo que todos los problemas se simplifiquen hablando de una pretemporada defectuosa o que el técnico sea insuficiente, cuando se vió claramente en los meses previos, que fue capaz de dar cierta solidez al equipo, generando cierta expectativa en el porvenir. Aunque hay varios lesionados, mas allá de Ugarte, estos tampoco tienen un gran peso, y los recién llegados tampoco han destacado, por lo que me queda duda si le darán al técnico tiempo suficiente para revertir esto, o iniciarán otro proyecto desde 0, lo cual para mí, sería un error.
I'm not sure what to think about United, because I don't believe all their problems can be simplified to a poor preseason or the manager being inadequate, especially since it was clear in the preceding months that he was able to give the team some stability and generate some expectations for the future. Although there are several injuries, besides Ugarte, they aren't major issues, and the new arrivals haven't stood out either. So I'm left wondering if they'll give the manager enough time to turn things around, or if they'll start a new project from scratch, which, in my opinion, would be a mistake.
