Hello Beautiful Readers,
I Welcome You To My Blog...
Sometimes in life, I often wish that I am a doctor or a nurse in the family because of ailments befalling my loved ones or my folks out there in the world. I always wanted to make an exception of bringing hope, and smiles, and seeing progress in people's lives.
But that was a lie when this ailment came to my family...SIGH! A wish is only a wish and nothing more unless something is done about that then the wish can be granted...(my career pursuit was accountancy, do you think it would benefit me if I was a doctor just for my family? How about my passion?)
As they say, experience is the best teacher!
Of course, there are a few temporary treatments for cancer and the rest of it but is there a permanent cure for it?
Cassandra was a very nice person to me although she wasn't related by blood she was loved by our family.
I met Cassandra the day that my big brother brought her home as his fiancee, she didn't even make anyone feel that she was an outsider. My family loved her because she was respectful and had home training. That was how to grade a woman who's to be married into a family.
After a few months of introduction and consistent visitation, she became ill. We thought it was pregnancy although it wasn't forbidden to get pregnant before marriage at least a few months into the pregnancy she should be made a wife. My grandma called my big brother to a close corner and asked him questions about her (his supposed betrothed) about her health.
I was in the kitchen peeling some tubers of yam when I overheard him talking about her and that it wasn't pregnancy because granny wanted to find out if it was pregnancy so as to sit him down on what to do next. Unfortunately, it wasn't! It was cancer! Then as I thought being a young girl cancer is much easier to cure. I waved it away and continued with the domestic job I was assigned.
A few months later, I walked into my big brother's room to have a play and chit-chat like I always do. I asked him about Cassandra and he said she was still in the hospital and I asked for what! Since then?
Is it the bills that are too much to pay?... I asked him.
Let me go and tell mom to lend you some money...I suggested.
He said it wasn't the bills that he was scared that he would lose her... which I quickly forbade him to say. The next day we went to see her. I couldn't believe my eyes! I was shocked! Her beauty was reduced to zero! Her hair was falling off! She looked thin and pale!
Her neck bones were visible, she looked disheveled. I didn't know when teardrops came rolling down my cheekbones. I looked away immediately and walked out of the door. I sat down at the reception area and questions were roaming back and forth in my head.
Just as I hoped, the doctor came out to call a nurse and complained that the battery to the bell wasn't functioning and demanded it be changed as soon as possible then I stood up immediately, and rushed to the door before it was slammed. The doctor looked back in curiosity as to why the door wasn't shut, "yes how can I help you" that's his next question looking disdainfully at me.
" My sister sir " pointing at the ward she was placed in … I replied trembling.
As I wanted to narrate further, my big brother came inside, apologized, and dragged me out. That was the last time I came to the hospital and a few months later she gave up the ghost. I was so fond of her and I cried out my eyes wishing I could turn back the hands of time to rescue her. I did my research and so far till today there's no cure for cancer and that was how I wished to have to be a doctor to save Cassandra. A few years later I understood that it was ovarian cancer.
Not only that the life of Cassandra was lost but it's as a result of saving other pretty souls out there in the world praying to be cured and free from that ailment. To regain their full self and go back to living their lives happily.
I will conclude by appreciating folks who took out their time to create and those who write about this contest because we are sharing our thoughts on how to help humanity.
See you in another post 🦋
