One day I woke up and he was gone,
"A year has passed since that traumatic Christmas, I can only remember his big and bright eyes, an expectant look that made me shudder just by feeling it on me. Today December 1st would become in my calendar the most painful date, like every day when I woke up; I ran to her arms looking for her warmth, a caress, a tender word that would accelerate my heart.
I woke up and her body was gone, days after that date her body was getting colder, her arms were no longer strong, her eyes were fading. A year after his departure, I can remember how hard he tried to give us a better life, although he gave us very little time; when he did, he took us to the clouds.
At one point he had a lot, but his time was scarce and he no longer participated in the festivities due to work commitments. I remember hearing that this year would be different, that Christmas would be unique and exclusive for us, that he had finally achieved the desired profits and it was time to take a break; a well-deserved rest.
He did get to rest, however, it was not as he expected; his body was very worn out, he slept few hours at night and in the daytime, if he was not at the computer, he would look at his phone very carefully as if waiting for something to happen. A few months before the tragedy, the doctors said that there was no remedy, it was time to stop and enjoy the days he had left.
He did not do it, his stubbornness took him away forever, he only said over and over again that he had to assure us stability, comfort, and who knows what other things that no longer interest me today. If I could sell the house, the car, the jewelry, and everything he harvested to have him at least one more day, without hesitation I would live under a bridge as long as he was by my side.
From that moment on Christmas is no longer a holiday in my calendar, the red and green are now in mourning, there is an inexplicable emptiness at home that no one else will be able to fill. If only he had stopped for a month, if he had at least paid a little attention to us in his last weeks; my heart would not feel so burdened."
ENGLISH
We do not know the day or the hour of our departure or that of our loved ones, many people celebrate the arrival of the holidays while others only hide under their suffering.
It is imperative to find happiness, peace, harmony, or whatever you want to call it; the fact is that it is useless to spend our lives clinging to material things, to purchasing power. Certainly, it is necessary to work to live, but to what extent are you willing to sacrifice your life for riches, something I have always heard and continue to reaffirm?
"... Into the world with nothing we come and with nothing we leave."
