Hiii, Sketchbook community, I'm back here! I hope you are doing great this time around, mwah. 💙✨

‎
Today I come to bring you a drawing that I consider a bit special. First, because in the process, I took longer than usual; enjoying the strokes and the result I was making. And second, because this drawing is about a mermaid: my favorite mythological creature… Well, after the chimeras, but that's a story I'll tell you later (I'm looking forward to it).
‎
So, well, join me in this process, here we go!

Mermaids are mythological sea creatures. It's said that they used to be represented as hybrid creatures that were part woman and part bird (Omg, chimeras? I LOVE IT). But well, it just so happens that in the Middle Ages they began to be depicted as part woman and part fish, having tails instead of legs. Regardless of their appearance, something very characteristic of these beings is their bewitching voice.

I like mermaids so much because they are sea creatures, precisely, and I love the sea, because it's blue, beautiful, and soothing. My favorite places are the beaches, because the sound of the waves gives me peace. If I were to be born again, I would like to be a mermaid (or a chimera, hahaha), because they live in the sea, have beautiful hair, and a melodious voice (and I like to sing). Anyway, I would like to be a mermaid, I think.

Besides, you can imagine who my favorite princess is: Ariel. Personally, I like the tale of the little mermaid, but I like the original story even more, because I love stories with sad endings. I like to cry, yes, not a coincidence my favorite anime is Candy Candy.

The original story is about a mermaid who falls in love with a man, but since she had no legs to walk on land and be with him, she makes a deal with a sea witch, after being tricked by her.

In exchange for giving legs to her, the witch asks for her voice. and that makes me think, I wonder: how difficult it must have been for the little mermaid to learn to breathe and walk?

Walking, in the original story, was a real torture for the mermaid, since every step she took felt as if a thousand needles were piercing her feet. Poor mermaid, enduring all of this for love. After all, she was an innocent and young girl, who was just unlucky. In the end, not only does the prince not fall in love with her, but he was going to marry another woman (which makes sense, after all royalty is all about arranged marriages).

But there is one detail: The deal with the sea witch was that in exchange for her voice, she would give her legs, but she had to marry the prince within a specific time frame, or else she would turn into sea foam. Since the little mermaid failed to marry him, she then asked her sisters for help, who in turn made a deal with the sea witch.

In this new deal, the mermaid had to kill the prince before sunrise... Or she would end up turning into sea foam. And she tried, but she couldn't, because there was no evil in her heart.

And so that was how the little mermaid was transformed into foam, scattering into the vast sea, as the first rays of sunshine began to tuck it all in.

But at this point, there is one more part that I like to imagine, and that is to think how calm she must have felt at the end. No sadness of a broken heart, no ache of a thousand needles, no muteness, no worries. In the end, she was what anyone would want to be: free. Perhaps it's a happy ending, in a story where she was not to blame for being a young girl in love.

Remember that I did not invent this story, it's a tale by the Danish writer and poet Hans Christian Andersen. I have only been in charge of telling it in my own way, perhaps adding a different ending. As I told you, I like that story very much.

With nothing more to add, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Take care, I hope to see you again. See you neeeext time, mwaaah. 💙✨
