Hello, Ladies of Hive!
In Nigeria, we generally experience two major seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The dry season is often characterized by intense sunshine and heat, while Harmattan brings dry, dusty winds and cooler weather. These seasonal patterns vary by location.

In southern Nigeria, the rainy season usually starts around March or April and continues into October or November. In mid-August, there is what we call the August break, a period when rainfall reduces for a few weeks. After this break, the rain returns and continues into the later part of the year. Harmattan conditions are often experienced between December and February, although their intensity and duration vary. The dry season generally extends from around November to March.

All these seasons affect me differently, but the rainy season is the worst for me. Waking up to start a day only to discover that it is raining heavily can be frustrating. Or going out without an umbrella and ending up coming home drenched. I will admit that, to farmers, the rainy season is the best for their crops, but to me, I always catch colds and flu during this season.

Mosquitoes also tend to increase because of the stagnant water that collects around us. The roads become slippery, and where I stay, going into the house becomes difficult whenever it rains. The water covers the ground to the extent that one can hardly differentiate between the walkway and the gutters. We are currently in the rainy season in Nigeria. What I do to manage the season is to make sure I never forget to go out with my umbrella. First, I always buy an umbrella during the dry season because they are cheaper then. During the rainy season, they become more expensive. So, I keep my umbrella and take it with me whenever I go to work or school.

Sometimes, it feels like a burden carrying it around, but I would rather carry an umbrella than get drenched in the rain. I also burn mosquito coils to control mosquitoes. Another thing I do is study the walkways in my area. In cases where I return home and the ground is covered with water, I use small billboards as landmarks to identify where the gutters are and where the ground is level, so I don't fall into a gutter.
Thankfully, the drainage system in my area was recently worked on, and water no longer collects as it used to. The issue of flooding on our walkway has been resolved, which has made things much easier.
Despite all these challenges, I must say that I enjoy my sleep when it rains. The sound of the rain and the cool temperature make sleeping fun and enjoyable, but this is only when it rains at night.
However, if it rains in the morning, I wish it were possible to stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, that is not possible because I have work to do and responsibilities to attend to.
Thank you, thekittygirl@thekittygirl. I must say this is a very interesting topic! ❤️.
