Late night in markets makes for a slow start. Markets are ugly making for a lack of motivation for the day. Did some of tbe accounting for a busy options expiry.
Did get moving to go for a ride and walk along the local Blackbutt Creek track. Parked the bike up to walk an access track in the middle - down and along to a few known orchid spots.
First of the flannel flowers
Garden escapee - pretty flower - houses are not far up the cliffs. There had been a lot of alien vegetation cleared since my last walk here
A few common ant orchids opened up since last time
Chiloglottis formicifera. This cluster is always the last to flower as it is low down in the rainforest zone just above the creek
Noticed these fluffy flowers - this one is past it's best. Took the shot as the other flowers were well above head height. First rule of photography = get a shot
Leptospermum - could almost make it a white flower day
Yes - hakea flower in white
Tiny in white
Dampiera purpurea
Pea flowers in yellow - backing - a rock ledge
Tougher photo worked better
Did get a tree with spiky white flowers closer to the ground for photos of fresh flowers. The common name is black wattle because it looks like a wattle
It.is not a wattle. It is Callicoma serratifolia - leaf is serrated is clue to the Latin name. Note the bug
Bugs are interested
Seeded thelymitra orchid. There's were half a dozen flower spikes all seeded
All but this one - capsule is a bit swollen but there is colour at the tip. These do self pollinate and with no warm days the flowers often do not show.
One more. Recall on ID is this is thelymitra pauciflora
Interesting lichen forest
This little tree caught my eye. Stands maybe 10 inches tall on a 70° slope. Maybe 8 inches across
And the roots are quite exposed. They are about as long as the tree is tall
A few dyanella still open
One more common ant orchid flower open in a spot found last walk - above the track
Was going to turn there. Decided to walk firther to see of there any dipodiums open. Good move as there was a budding dipodium orchid where the track turns back up. The green leaves are the surviving chiloglottis and cryptostlis orchids - track work nuked them. Two years to see any recovery
Another budding dipodium orchid on the way back
Last of the bearded orchids. Track work wiped out the one on the uphill side of the track. Three plants here will offer hope for the coming years
Seeded chiloglottis trapeziformis orchid
Native violet for my granddaughter Violette
One more budding hyacinth orchid
And the first budding cryptostylis orchid on this track this season. Quite a gap between the leaf and the bud
Crimson rosella up high on the track up and out
Rode up to tennis club. They share a cup of red when they finish playing. I supplied a bottle last week. Was a good way to end the day
Friend came over for strata stuff. They worked and I cooked. Turned into a late night
