Wake to a much cooler day than yesterday. My friend had sent me photos of sun orchids from a track I do not often walk. Hazard reduction burns, track work and electricity pole replacement has trashed it. Had to go look - not warm enough for sun orchids to open but you never know if you never go. Took the car and combined it with a shopping trip
Well that had a close encounter. Driving up to a three way intersection that gives right of way to the feeder road coming up from the highway. Other two roads have STOPS. Well the lady ignored the stop and turned right across me in the riad that has the right of way. It was close - did get a wave from the bitch
Parked up and walked down to the top of the Depot Road. Burchardia umbrellata on the way
Found a fairy fingers orchid in a new spot - a double header

Did find the sun orchids in the suggested spot - edge of the road onna sandy base and just off the burned area - markings show leaf and buds
A few buds - pink sun orchid - thelymitra carnea. Not warm enough to open. That said the swelling capsule tells me the plant has pollinated
The closest to a flower - will come back in toe days on a warmer day to check if one will show its face. Forecast is 24C.
Walked the whole of the Depot Track - found this sun orchid budding. Do not know which one but it is different to the others- colour is the clue
Buds close up. Looks yellow but it might be a blue one.
Next up is different again. The.spike has bracts. The flower is emerging with shades of yellow. Looks like a bug got to it. Thinking bearded orchid

Burned a few seasons back - edges are recovering but understory is still blighted
Burned bleak. Grass is emerging. My experience is it takes two seasons at least for orchids to re-emerge depending a bit on how hot the fire was

Sundew flower. Found one being held in place down below to allow a photo somewhat in focus. Flower is smaller than a US penny.
Crossed the road and continued the walk under the powerlines. This segment has not been burned but it is regularly maintained. Not a lot of orchid joy here
Got back to the Kalkari Track with a few known orchid spots. Caladenia carnea still going from last week
