4 orchid day on the bike in Seven Mile Beach NP : June 26 2026
Had the best sleep in a while - did not get up at all until the sky was breaking clear at dawn. Promise of a sunny day no matter what the forecast was suggesting. My wife headed out for her lunch date with friends. Not long after I was on the bike to walk a section of Seven Mile Beach NP. With commitments tomorrow chose to walk two segments I normally do in two days
Good to get out on the bike. Clouds looming bit hoping for a dry walk. First up mimosa flower a bit early
Budding greenhood promise for a few weeks time
First up for the day - colony of trim greenhoods
Pterostylis concinna - forked labellum is the key to ID

This helmet is not as elongated. Too bad I did not get a photo of its labellum. Guessing it is different - maybe pterostylis oblonga

How did I know? The buds were behind - nodding greenhood in a known spot

Saw this curved shape - thinking it might be a different helmet orchid. Nope - back to mushrooms and orchid leaves
Cannot quite see the fork here but the shape of the helmet is like the others
