New season small nodding greenhoods amidst trackwork mayhem : May 6 2026
Was one of those slow days getting going. Did some of the accounting. Did push to get a walk in on a loop to the shops.
A few two tone flowers on the way down.
Same colours, different flowers. Azalea vs hibiscus. Next up - two tone jonquill
Walked down to Blackbutt Creek. Had forgotten that they had started trackwork
These orchids just escaped the work- a few buried under the clay
Track work is to widen the fire trail and level out the uneven bits and create big run-offs down to the creek. Some is hard to understand - like laying clay over a section of concrete
Did find orchids - first up sharp greenhood - pterostylis acuminata in a known spot
First of the acianthus pusillis - small mosquito orchid
Missed the flowers on these chiloglottis orchids - 3rd season now and not seen tbe flowers. Heaps of leaves and just a few spikes

A few more sharp greenhoods - found 3 of the 4 colonies seen last walk all up away from the track work - nice side-on in view

This was once the site of a pterostylis concinna colony - the only one on this track. Chopped away to make a run-off
From the midpoint of the track the work was less aggressive - track wide enough here to leave the edges alone
And least damaged was the section where the greenhoods are close to the edge of the track

Good to get a 3 orchid day. Will skip walking here for a few weeks. The track work gets me depressed but there are some orchids lining up - leaves for now
Did the shopping.
Cooked beef rendang for dinner. A bit of a cheat using an Aldi pack of spices and gluten free naan bread. Naan Cooked from frozen in a dry hot frying pan
