Something different - metro to end of line - walk and train back from Wolli Creek : April 29 2026
In a different pattern. Get moving - walk past the pickleball courts where they advertise play every morning. None today. Catch a train and head where trains go
Today - took the Metro to the end of the line at Sydenham and plan a walk along the Cooks River. Grand old Sydenham Station - all shuttered
General Gordon Hotel - the same Gordon after whom our suburb is named
A few cute cottage houses - Victorian without the iron work
Under the flight path
Old town hall building now a creative arts centre
Art work down the side of these old duplex terraces
More artwork - looks like art and not graffiti
A line of cottages - all much the same
Tempe Public School - Victorian style too - note the copper dome
Old church building now a Tongan church. Tells you something about how things have changed - the old folk who used this as their church have been replaced with new followers
The old and the new looking from Tempe to Wolli Creek - my target station is in those high rises
A view of the footbridge over Tempe Station. Unusually the ticket offices were built on the footbridge and not on the platform
View from the footbridge. My wife used to say a line in the Lords Pray - do not lead into Tempe Station. This is for her
For the railway aficionados - switching tracks
Going to follow the cycle track toward Arncliff - sure hope there is a way across the Cooks Rover to get to Wolli Creek. Otherwise it is a long walk - or loop back the way I came
Wolli Creek high-rises - the station is just below those
Decided to walk the east bank of the river and follow it around. Google Maps kept saying to do a U-turn back to the bridge in shot. Why? Nice day. Quiet park walk with unfolding views. Did see people walking the motorway bridge - get there and loop back
Interesting art work on this warehouse building. Inside - pickelball courts in action. Still no sign of a river crossing
Painting work on the jet fuel tanks at the airport - still no bridge. I did chat with a Qantas worker having his lunch break this side - figured there was a way to walk form the Qantas side
Reached the airport interchange - this bridge takes traffic to the city. I need to go the other way. Did find a bridge carrying the water pipes - across we go
A win - sign for where I want to go. Note the cyclist dismount sign. Footpath is narrow and the road is busy. One cyclist chose to ride the road - crazy man. The other made me step on the road - rude man. Follow the signs
View back to Wolli Creek with interesting cloud building
Airport shot from the freeway bridge
Nice park walk back to Wolli Creek - time for a loo stop
Lane way of eating places down to the station. Chose to head home - kegs are tired with over 10k steps done. Had to run two stations to make trains - all good - 25 minutes listening to investing stuff
Did a few shopping things on the wat home. Took down fire escape stuff for fire inspection Friday. Did cook dinner - comfort food. Guess
Make a roux - melt butter - sift in a few tablespoons of flower - add inspired garlic and spring onion when butter starts to brown
Make a bechemel sauce. It is a patient job - a bit of milk and mix in grated cheese. Use the leftovers you have - today it was parmesan, cheddar, French laval, cream cheese, cheddar, a bit of blue, red Leicester, sour cream - dash of white pepper too. Add milk and stir. Not too runny.
Grease the baking dish - layer of pasta, sauce, layer of pasta, sauce- tionwith grated parmesan, Spanish paprika and sliced tomato. Bake for 30 minutes at 180C
Nice green salad tops it off
