Hello everyone. Today I bring you a little review about one of my favorite novels and it is "Gone with the Wind", a work by Margaret Mitchell. So let's start!
Hola a todos. El día de hoy les traigo una pequeña reseña acerca de una de mis novelas favoritas y se trata pues de "Lo que el viento se llevó", una obra de Margaret Mitchell. Así que ¡Comencemos!
The story of Scarlett O'hara and her land, Tara.
Gone with the Wind tells the story of Scarlett O'Hara, a wealthy young woman from the south of the United States, daughter of parents who own acres of valuable reddish land called Tara. A privileged life is enjoyed by her and her family before the harsh War of Succession. Where everything begins to change.
Scarlett will be one of the main characters but at first, her personality turns out to be stubborn, immature and arrogant. This is due to her youth. This will only bring as a consequence many misfortunes because her first mistake will be to be stubborn for the love of Ashley Wilkes. But this does not correspond to him, since he is engaged to Melanie Hamilton. The latter will be part of the recurring characters, only one is missing.
La historia de Scarlett O'hara y su tierra, Tara.
Lo que el viento se llevó, narra la historia de Scarlett O'hara, una joven adinerada del sur de Estados Unidos, hija de padres dueños de hectáreas de tierra rojiza de gran valor llamada, Tara. Una vida privilegiada es disfrutada por ella y su familia antes de la dura Guerra de Sucesión. Dónde todo empieza a cambiar.
Scarlett será una de las protagonista pero en una primera instancia, su personalidad resulta ser testaruda, inmadura y arrogante. Esto debido a su juventud. Esto solo traerá como consecuencia muchos infortunios pues su primer error será el de empecinarse por el amor de Ashley Wilkes. Pero este no le corresponde, ya que se encuentra comprometido con Melanie Hamilton. Estos últimos serán parte de los personajes recurrentes, solo falta mencionar uno.
Rhett Butler is the leading man who will play one of the most important roles in this story. He is a man of great power, economic and social, as well as possessing charm, mischief and even a certain cynicism in his personality. Rhett meets Scarlett when she confesses her love to Ashley. From this moment on Rhett begins to have an interest in her because of the passion with which she moves. She ignores him.
Later we see that Scarlett marries Melanie's brother out of spite. So she becomes a direct relative of the latter. The war begins and soon she is widowed with a son from that marriage. Things do not seem to get better for her, since without any remorse for her deceased husband, she stays with Melanie waiting for Ashley's arrival. This pays off, as she manages to see him, but Melanie becomes pregnant. The war seems to be advancing towards where they are and Scarlett in search of help for Melanie's childbirth and the arrival of enemy troops, turns to Rhett. He brings them to safety. They have returned to Tara but their mother is dead, their father has gone mad, the slaves have left, they have lost their crops and all the wealth they had. Tara, their beloved land is suffering.
Rhett Butler, es el galán que protagonizará uno de los papeles más importantes en esta historia. Es un hombre de mucho poder, económico y social, además de poseer un encanto, picardía y hasta cierto cinismo en su personalidad. Rhett conoce a Scarlett cuando está le confiesa su amor a Ashley. Desde este momento Rhett comienza a tener un interés por ella debido a la pasión con la que ella se mueve. Ella hace caso omiso.
Más adelante veremos que Scarlett se casa con el hermano de Melanie por despecho. Por lo que se vuelve familiar directo de esta. La guerra comienza y pronto queda viuda y con un hijo de ese matrimonio. Las cosas no parecen mejorar para ella, ya que sin remordimiento alguno por su fallecido esposo, se queda con Melanie aguardando la llegada de Ashley. Lo que rinde frutos pues consigue verlo pero Melanie resulta embarazada. La guerra parece avanzar hacia donde ellas están y Scarlett en búsqueda de auxilio por el parto de Melanie y la llegada de las tropas enemigas, recurre a Rhett. Está las pone a salvó. Han vuelto a Tara pero su madre a muerto, su padre ha enloquecido, los esclavos se han marchado, han perdido los cultivos y todo la riqueza que tenían. Tara, su amada tierra está sufriendo.
Little by little we will see how Scarlett goes from being a vulgar little girl, totally carefree and childish, to a woman of temperate character, strong, brave and fighting for her own and her land. By this time the war is over. Her father has died in an accident, Ashley returns home and confesses to her that he wants her too but does not intend to leave Melanie, and Tara sinks into debt. Scarlett decides to marry again her sister's fiancé, a prosperous businessman in whom she sees a great future to get out of the poverty in which she is plunged. This betrayal will fill her with remorse but she achieves her goal, as she returns to being a woman of power and status. From this marriage with Frank, she has another son. Unfortunately, he dies while trying to defend her husband's honor... Finally, Rhett proposes to Scarlett and she accepts.
At this point it could be said that Scarlett has a dream life. Money, a fruitful land, a husband with great power and a family. Out of this marriage comes little Bonnie Blue. But with all this, she is still determined that Ashley is the love of her life. Rhett knows this truth and tries to talk some sense into her. They argue and he leaves with Bonnie but soon regrets it and returns home with Scarlett. They have an argument, she suffers an accident where she loses the baby she was carrying in her womb but, that won't be her only tragedy as Bonnie dies while riding her pony. Just as Scarlett's father died, riding.
Poco a poco veremos cómo Scarlett pasa de ser una vulgar muchachita, totalmente despreocupada e infantil, a una mujer de carácter templado, fuerte, valiente y que lucha por los suyos y su tierra. Para este momento la guerra ha terminado. Su padre ha muerto por un accidente, Ashley vuelve a casa y le confiesa que también la desea pero no pretende dejar a Melanie y Tara se hunde en deudas. Scarlett decide casarse otra vez con el novio de su hermana, un próspero negociante y en él que ella ve un gran futuro para salir de la pobreza en la que está sumida. Está traición la llenará de remordimiento pero logra su objetivo, pues vuelve a ser una mujer de poder y estatus. De este matrimonio con Frank, resulta otro hijo. Lamentablemente este muere al tratar de defender el honor de su esposo... Finalmente, Rhett le propone matrimonio a Scarlett y está acepta.
A este punto podría decirse que Scarlett tiene una vida soñada. Dinero, una tierra fructífera, un esposo con gran poder y una familia. De este matrimonio surge la pequeña Bonnie Blue. Pero con todo esto, sigue empeñada en que Ashley es el amor de su vida. Rhett sabe está verdad y trata de hacerla entrar en razón. Discuten y él se marcha con Bonnie pero pronto se arrepiente y vuelve a casa con Scarlett. Tienen una discusión, ella sufre un accidente donde pierde el bebé que llevaba en su vientre pero, esa no será su única tragedia pues Bonnie muere mientras cabalgaba en su pony. Tal y como el padre de Scarlett murió, cabalgando.
Scarlett and Rhett's relationship is increasingly withering despite Rhett's attempts at trying to move the marriage forward. In the midst of all this, Melanie, who has always suffered from poor health, has become pregnant but loses the baby because of her fragile state? Which leads to her death. On her deathbed, Scarlett realizes that she loves Melanie with all her heart and that she never really loved Ashley, everything was always an illusion. But it's too late, Rhett has watched as she (innocently and for the first time with no intention) comforts Ashley and this has been enough for him. He leaves... Scarlett follows him, he tells her it's over and she insists that she does love him, with all her heart and like no one else. Rhett only manages to tell her that the only thing he has left is the earth, is Tara. Scarlett is left alone and understands his words, really the only thing she has left is the land, her land. This is the end of the novel.
I love this novel because it is so well detailed, between the drama, romance and tragedy you can see some humor. It is a story that despite being long, it entertains and when you least expect it you have reached the middle. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel in my youth. My mother gave it to me as a gift and it holds a special fondness for me. I knew the feature film first and then the book and I consider both experiences to be equally mind-blowing. I can't say that one is better than the other, I think they are both gems. Of course, it all depends on the reader's opinion. For me, who enjoys romanticism, it was a delight. Finally, this is the end of this summary that turned out to be not so brief hehehe it was impossible to synthesize it more. La relación de Scarlett y Rhett se ve cada vez más marchita pese a los intentos por este último en tratar de sacar adelante el matrimonio. Entre todo esto, Melanie, quién siempre sufrió de una salud delicada, ha quedado embarazada pero pierde al bebé por su frágil estado... Cosa que conlleva a qué está muera. En su lecho de muerte, Scarlett se da cuenta de que ama a Melanie con todo su corazón y que realmente nunca amo a Ashley, todo siempre fue una ilusión. Pero es tarde, Rhett a visto como esta (inocentemente y por primera vez con ninguna intención) consuela a Ashley y esto ha sido suficiente para él. Se marcha... Scarlett lo sigue, él le dice que se ha acabado y ella insiste en que si lo ama, con todo su corazón y como nadie. Rhett solo alcanza a decirle que lo único que le queda es la tierra, es Tara. Scarlett se queda sola y comprende sus palabras, realmente lo único que le queda es la tierra, su tierra. Acá termina la novela.
Me encanta esta novela porque está muy bien detallada, entre el drama, el romance y la tragedia se puede ver algo de humor. Es una historia que a pesar de ser larga, entretiene y cuando menos esperas has llegado a la mitad. Disfruté muchísimo de esta novela en mi juventud. Mi madre me lo ha regalado y posee un especial cariño para mi. Conocí primero el largometraje y luego el libro y considero que ambas experiencias son igual de alucinantes. No puedo decir que una es mejor que otra, creo que ambas son unas joyas. Claro que, todo dependerá de la opinión del que la lea. A mí, que disfruto del romanticismo, fue un encanto. Finalmente hasta acá ha llegado este resumen que resultó no se tan breve jejeje era imposible sintetizarlo más.
