So there we were... doing our homeschool thang.. reading books, getting our tasks accomplished. Actually, we were reading one of my most favorite books.. The Year at Maple Farm by Alice and Martin Provensen. Such beautiful illustrations! Yay for Kindergarten! I digress.
I had all 3 kiddos engaged in their work when all of the sudden we hear this random clicking-type noise behind me in the kitchen! I turn around and there is a gorgeous and very tiny hummingbird IN.MY.KITCHEN. and he is frantically bashing is poor little beak up against my picture window above my sink! My son and I immediately race to his aide.. knowing our 2 kitty hunters.. if they are around... will be on him in a flash! My son, the self-proclaimed "animalologist" JUMPS onto the counter and catches him in his hands. The little guy managed to get free a few times and go back to the window, but he carefully grabbed him again and held him steady.. in time for me to grab a photo for you! So beautiful. So tiny!
As far as we can tell, he was a Rufous-Tailed Hummingbird.
My son's sentiments were "MOM.. I've ALWAYS wanted to touch a hummingbird.. and IT.JUST.HAPPENED." #dreamscomingtrue I guess that is what happens when you live on the side of a volcano and get to leave your windows open all day. We have these gorgeous red Passion Flowers growing wild on a vine outside our kitchen window.. and the Hummingbirds love them. I'm sure that's where the little rascal flew in when we weren't looking!
Later in the day, as I was upstairs in my room exercising.. my son walks in with this awesome Walking Stick bug.. just crawling all over him like it's nothing! The Panama is crazy-beautiful.. I'm tellin' ya!!!!! I couldn't make up our days if I tried!!
Have a wonderful evening and thanks for sharing in our day! Come back tomorrow.. we get to enjoy a private tour of Finca La Capricosa in the little town of Caisan in the morning.. studying letter G for g-g-goat and C for C-c-cow and they have lots of both! Come back tomorrow to see! <3
