I wish you a merry and above all peaceful Christmas time. Today, how could it be otherwise, it's all about Christmas. Every year I am faced with the task of creating something Christmassy as a light painting in order to then send it around the world as a Christmas greeting. So also this year. As you can see in the title picture, I was on a Christmas mission again this year. Since I'm not religious and don't really like the consumption that we indulge in in the run-up to Christmas in our western world, I see the Christmas season as a time for reflection. You get together, meet family and friends, reflect on yourself, calm down and look back on the year and maybe make plans for the future. So I don't know Christmas stress 😊.
Ich wünsche euch eine frohe und vor allem besinnliche Weihnachtszeit. Es dreht sich heute, wie soll es anders sein, um Weihnachten. Alle Jahre wieder stehe ich vor der Aufgabe, etwas Weihnachtliches als Lightpainting umzusetzen, um es dann als Weihnachtsgruß um die Welt zu senden. Wie ihr im Titelbild seht, war ich auch in diesem Jahr in weihnachtlicher Mission unterwegs.
Da ich nicht religiös bin und dem zur Vorweihnachtszeit gefrönten Konsum in unserer westlichen Welt nicht viel abgewinnen kann, sehe ich die Weihnachtszeit als Zeit der Besinnung an. Man rückt zusammen, trifft Familie und Freunde, geht in sich, kommt zur Ruhe und blickt auf das Jahr zurück und schmiedet vielleicht Pläne für die Zukunft. Weihnachts-Stress kenne ich somit nicht 😊.
The cover picture is a joint work with Chris. Born in Belgium, he lives with his family in Brazil. He is very interested in light painting photography. Since we are currently in Brazil, a private workshop weekend was a good idea. The cover picture and the following picture were taken at his home.
Das Titelbild ist eine gemeinsame Arbeit mit Chris. Der gebürtige Belgier lebt mit seiner Familie in Brasilien. Er ist sehr an der Lightpainting-Fotografie interessiert. Da wir zurzeit in Brasilien sind, bot sich ein privates Workshop-Wochenende an.

I don't want to withhold the light paintings of the past years from you. Of course, every picture has its own story.
I would like to start with my first light painted Christmas tree from 2017. It was the year I started light painting. Since we usually visit somewhere at Christmas, we very rarely put a decorated tree in the living room. Only when we are the hosts are we decorated for Christmas. So I painted a tree with light in the living room. A light blade for the tree, fiberglass for the snow and a flashlight for a few stars were used. Everything was operated on a flashlight, the LEDLenser P7QC.
Die Lightpaintings der vergangenen Jahre möchte ich euch nicht vorenthalten. Natürlich hat jedes Bild auch seine eigene Geschichte. Beginnen möchte ich mit meinem ersten lichtgemalten Weihnachtsbaum von 2017. Es war das Jahr, in dem ich mit dem Lightpainting begonnen habe. Da wir zu Weihnachten meist irgendwo zu Besuch sind, stellen wir sehr selten einen geschmückten Baum ins Wohnzimmer. Nur, wenn wir die Gastgeber sind, wird auch weihnachtlich geschmückt. Also malte ich einen Baum mit Licht ins Wohnzimmer. Ein Lightblade für den Baum, Glasfiber für den Schnee und die Taschenlampe für ein paar Sternchen, kamen dabei zum Einsatz. Alles wurde an einer Taschenlampe, der LEDLenser P7QC betrieben.

Costa Rica Christmas Tree
In 2018 I was in Costa Rica on business. In this warm country, a Christmas tree looks quite exotic. Costa Rica really has a lot to offer, but real Christmas trees are very rare to find here. Mostly they are replicas made of plastic or, as in the following picture, a Christmas tree made of light. 😎 A Lightblade and an LEDLenser P7QC were also used here. While the picture was being taken, I was observed skeptically by some hotel guests. They probably suspected a lunatic who wants to communicate with extraterrestrials with the help of his flashlights behind my choreography. 😆
2018 hielt ich mich beruflich in Costa Rica auf. In diesem warmen Land wirkt ein Weihnachtsbaum ziemlich exotisch. Costa Rica hat wirklich sehr viel zu bieten, aber echte Weihnachtsbäume findet man hier sehr selten. Meist sind es Nachbildungen aus Plastik oder wie auf dem folgenden Bild, ein Weihnachtsbaum aus Licht. 😎 Auch hier kamen ein Lightblade und eine LEDLenser P7QC zum Einsatz. Während der Aufnahme des Bildes wurde ich von einigen Hotelgästen skeptisch beobachtet. Wahrscheinlich vermuteten sie einen Irren, der mit Hilfe seiner Taschenlampen mit Ausserirdischen kommunizieren will, hinter meiner Choreografie. 😆

Moscow Christmas Tree
At the end of 2019 I traveled to Moscow on business. I knew @yo-hoho from Facebook. So I made contact with him and asked if we wanted to swing the lamps together in Moscow. He agreed and we met over the weekend to tour Moscow armed with some lighting tools, a camera and a tripod. In Gorky Park we met this Christmas tree that inspired us to the following picture below. The joke was that I didn't get the light painting right the first time. Not because it failed technically, but because I made a mistake by writing. 🤣There is always something 🙄.
Ende 2019 reiste ich beruflich nach Moskau. @yo-hoho kannte ich aus Facebook. Also stellte ich den Kontakt zu ihm her und fragte, ob wir in Moskau zusammen die Lampen schwingen wollen. Er sagte zu und wir trafen uns am Wochenende, um mit einigen Licht-Tools, Kamera und Stativ bewaffnet, durch Moskau zu ziehen. Im Gorki-Park trafen wir auf diesen Weihnachtsbaum, der uns zu dem folgenden Bild unten inspirierte. Der Witz war, dass ich das Lightpainting nicht beim ersten mal hinbekommen habe. Nicht weil es technisch misslang, sondern, weil ich mich verschrieben habe. 🤣Irgendwas ist ja immer 🙄.

Years 2020 and 2021
In the Corona years 2020 and 2021 we celebrated Christmas at home. I painted the trees on our terrace. In the first image below, I painted the dots with different colored finger lights. For the tree I again used a Lightblade with a flashlight.
In den Coronajahren 2020 und 2021 feierten wir Weihnachten zu Hause. Die Bäume malte ich auf unserer Terrasse. Im ersten Bild unten malte ich die Punkte mit verschiedenfarbigen Fingerlichtern. Für den Baum setzte ich wieder ein Lightblade mit Taschenlampe ein.
