On a desk cluttered with papers a cup of coffee makes room to expand its aroma. A cigarette slowly fades away in an ashtray, while the wall clock shows the time with punctual eagerness. Suddenly a phone starts ringing, and a man enters his office with complete alacrity to answer the call. His name is Jhon, a daring detective who for years has been dedicated to fighting crime and solving dangerous cases throughout the city.
When the call is cut off, Jhon feels a little discouraged because it has been a few months since he has been able to handle a case that tests his abilities as an investigator. Despite now working only night hours, everything seems to be in total control and peace, something that even though it sounds good leaves Jhon feeling a bit grumpy.
"I wish I could take a case I could never solve, as it would revive my detective spirit and my desire to keep working" Jhon reasoned as he turned his badge over his own hand.
But that was more than a thought, and the ringing of the phone now echoed thunderously in the office:
- "Hello! Hello! Hello!"
It seemed that no one wanted to talk, until a spokeswoman identified herself on behalf of many neighbors by raising a peculiar situation: it turns out that a woman recently moved into the neighborhood, and now every night she is making noises. The girl seems to work all day and no one sees her return home, but the problem is that all night long she turns into a real ruckus that keeps no one in the neighborhood from sleeping.
-But I'm not a cop. I'm just a..."
And then Jhon cut off his words and in seconds deduced that a night out wouldn't go amiss, at least to fill curiosity. And so it was that this detective took note of the address and headed to the scene.
Arriving at the site, there was no time for one of the residents to explain the situation in more detail. The new neighbor is guilty of disturbing everyone's night of rest, first by playing the piano in an unrestrained manner, then by turning on the television with such a high volume that one easily perceives the same movie every night, one of cowboys and Indians, and not content with this, she turns on a very strong and bright light that seems to want to escape from the house.
"This, no doubt, is an effective way to disturb the peace of the night" said Jhon with some arrogance.
And indeed all that was true, for as Jhon made his way towards the woman's house, the uproar became even greater. Once in front of the door and ringing the bell, Jhon saw a sign that read: "No overnight visits" and just as he looked back at the door, it was already open while a woman was showing her beauty. She was a classically adorned girl, white and slender as silk, as tall as a waterfall with the blue of the sea enclosed in the sparkle of her eyes.
- "Good evening, gentleman, can I help you with anything?"
Jhon was so enraptured that he forgot to respond to the greeting, and after a few seconds he reacted:
- "Are you the cause of all this noise?"
Then the mysterious woman somewhat embarrassed replied:
-"Please excuse me! Certain companions tend to get restless at night, and that's why there is so much commotion."
Hearing this, John replied:
- "It's all right. I just thought you were the only person in this house."
So it was that immediately the woman locked a long smile between her cheeks, and added:
"It really is. In fact, I invite you in so that you can corroborate it.
Jhon didn't want to refuse, so he immediately went on to examine. The woman told him that these troublemakers were upstairs, each in his room. She also told him to be careful not to go out of tune on his way upstairs as this would wake one of them. The detective did not understand the advice, until the moment he managed to step on the first step of a long staircase, thus causing a rumble within the walls of the house. Jhon, upon looking down, realized that the steps were actually musical strings that with each touch unfolded a resounding sound.
A steep climb was all that was required to reach the top, something that took Jhon several minutes. Once at the top, the detective found a long corridor and in it, three doors that awaited the source of that scandalous atmosphere that emanated from that house. With nothing more to wait for, John approached the first door and when he opened it his surprise was complete: it was a piano sleeping on a colorful blanket. This sleepy character was snoring non-stop, but being an instrument tuned by the stars, his snores came out with rhythm and melody.
- "What a stroke of my imagination!" Was what Jhon thought as he carefully closed the door.
And here was the second of them, which there was no need to open as someone from inside managed to knock it down with great force. "What's going on?" "I can't believe what I'm seeing!" Was what Jhon shouted as he witnessed a war between numbers and letters. All was chaos, with planes and chariots of war on both sides and amidst bullets and detonations our curious detective was hiding in a corner.
-It was a call for help that both the letters and the numbers took to challenge and even more when they saw that this detective was armed, so with this the letters and the numbers allied and raged against John, who had no choice but to run to the end of the corridor where a radiant and voracious light was welcoming him.
In such a hurry, Jhon didn't know he was in the next room, until someone behind him whispered:
- "Hello, friend! Have you come to visit the sun?"
For it was the sun himself who night after night stayed in that house fleeing from the moon and her jealousy, from the stars and from a band of stars who wanted to take revenge on him for being a beautiful knight. And so powerful was the sunlight, that John had no choice but to stay by his side until dawn came. And all that turned into a night that went away like lightning itself, it was an event that turned into that case that Jhon would never have expected.
The truth is that after that night, there was never another disturbance like the previous ones. Because of this, many neighbors have tried to find Jhon to thank him, but they do not know where he is and what has become of his life. Some say that on occasions they have heard the mysterious woman speak of a man who comes every night to sing and compose next to his piano, who plays chess between the beads and the alphabet, a man who has managed to persuade the sun to shine only in his dreams and so the two make every night the most unforgettable and magical of all the encounters that can be imagined.
