It’s still raining inside. And just as water can form a vast, deep lake, so too can our emotions today crash over us like a powerful wave. At times you feel you can paddle and fight against the current, but suddenly and without warning, something comes along to shatter the fragile harmony that rarely lasts. When you’re carrying so many wounds, even a slight sigh can tear you apart instead of bringing relief, and if a small ray of hope suddenly peeks through, someone else immediately brings to light a mistake you thought you’d forgotten or a guilt for which you’ve paid absolutely nothing.

As the days go by, you find less and less meaning in the things you used to enjoy. You may love writing, and yet even in the face of the most beautiful inspiration, you begin to show signs of unease that grow heavier with every passing moment. There are even times when you might just want to stop—without knowing why—and look back to figure out exactly when everything started turning gray. Before the storm, you can feel the raindrops falling little by little, but emotionally, everything seems to come crashing down with great force and treachery. That’s why, no matter how bright the light or how beautiful the scenery outside, inside it doesn’t seem to let up, and there’s no hope that anyone will lend you an umbrella. Where must the waters drain to believe that true salvation exists?

Suddenly, it’s like that man who looks in the mirror and doesn’t know who he is. You realize there’s no dream or goal you want to strive for. In an act of courage, you try to stir up the poetry that has waited so long for its muse, but there are only yellowed, torn pages that slowly crumble in your hands. If only I could find an excuse to keep going! But amid so much rubble, even my steps have grown heavier, and there’s no reason to set out on the path again. And so the nights you once longed for to fuel your dreams are now that small refuge where you just want to be and disconnect, with nothing else to tend to. It doesn’t matter anymore whether you walk or run, because there’s no advantage or difference in whatever you choose.

When you have to beg among the memories of a glorious past, you realize just how bleak your present has become. Behind a smile lies a vast, tattered veil of what you’d never dare to reveal. If only someone could see the torrent now surging through your soul, surely they’d dare to reach out a hand—but the truth is, reality is so bleak that you no longer even want to try. Perhaps many believe it’s wrong to carry so much sadness, but the truth is that there’s no worse state than resignation itself. It’s not easy when time no longer makes a difference, because everything is perceived as so linear and in a single color that it lacks all meaning.

It’s still raining inside, and the raindrops on the roof continue to echo throughout the place. That same rain has dried up the interest of a heart that doesn’t know which way to look, searching for a reason or explanation that would allow it to understand, even a little, the cause of such a situation. Little by little, words manage to absorb the bitterness seeping through the leaks, and in the midst of deep reflection, you eventually come to accept that there’s no turning back—and that the script you’ve been forced to follow isn’t what you once envisioned in your backyard. The best thing is to realize that the best option was never to run, but rather to walk through a torrential downpour that now serves as a home for a host of orphaned feelings that long to one day be able to look at the sun without blinking.
